How come there isnt ever anything new in the featured articles or the guns of the week? This is such a great site, and i enjoy the heck out of it, but i think i have read everything there is to Is it just to expensive to maintain? If thats the case then maybe there should be a small fee for posting for sale items. say 3 bucks or something simple and affordable. Not bitching just wondering.

As far as I know, this site does not have 10 people working on it around the clock. Pretty much a one man show, correct if wrong).

Each article would take countless hours to prepare. I do not know if you realize, but the 'Daily Bulletin' is updated... Daily!

Even if articles are submitted by others, then it still has to proof read and then edited to suit the needs.

PLUS, there is the daily up keep of the site....

As for making the for sale section cost... I think you will become fairly unpopular..... It's one of this sites many attractions... the first thing I do when going into the forum's it scout down the for sale..... make it cost.. less people will advertise, the small stuff)and then not as much will happen in the for sale section.

That's my belief anyway.

What would be a good article, as it seems to be a very popular area is putting Chronographs against each other and see how they perform.

Cheers

Yep, pretty much a one-man show in terms of building the pages and updating the site -- though we have many contributing writers such as Jason Baney and German Salazar. But you may not realize that after a piece is written it still may take 2 full work days to edit the text, photos, and video, and build the web layouts and links.

Ackley--We ARE working on that Chronographs article. We fabricated mounts this week so we can run 6 chronos in line.

RE CONTENT:
I wish we could provide 2-3 big new articles every week. But to do that would require a couple full-time editors and a team of paid free-lance writers. That would require an annual budget many times what the site takes in now.

The current featured article,on 1000-yard testing) was released a week ago and is over 5000 words. A typical major article takes 20-30 manhours, NOT including field time to test and shoot the rifle.

We do provide new content EVERY day,365 days a year) on the Daily Bulletin. That takes 20-30 manhours a week right there, and I spend another couple hours a day fielding questions and answering emails.

We certainly invite readers to contribute stories and bulletin items. You're also welcome to make a small donation to help us refresh the content more frequently.

Most people don't really have a realistic idea of the effort involved for our moderator Paul in running this site. Let me just say that I shut down my forums and site last year after 7 years because it was taking more time than my real job and this site is much, much better than mine ever was!

I can't begin to imagine everything Paul does to keep it going, but I can give you some insight into a Gun of the Week article. If you look at GoW 91, my 30-06 tubegun article, consider that I built the rifle with the article in mind, wrote over 6000 words, which Paul edited to a more manageable size) took dozens of pictures, worked up loads, shot matches, all to make it more than a few pictures of a cool looking rifle. In all, I spent several months of my 'hobby time' preparing and writing that article. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed doing that and I'm in no way suggesting that the effort isn't appreciated, it's just that I suspect people think it's a faster process than it really is.

Now, I will make the suggestion/request I usually make - please, write an article about a rifle or related topic that you find interesting and submit it! This site works best when the very talented readership contributes rather than passively receives information. I'm glad the articles are appreciated enough that there is a hunger for more, now let's all make that happen!

Sounds to me like a lot of excuses.

Just kidding !!!!!! :) :) :)

As someone that has lots of ideas but an inadequate amount of energy I really appreciate the amount of effort it takes to keep a site like this fresh and constantly updated [ not to mention just keeping it functioning ].

I have a pretty neat BR project rifle in progress and I can see it taking several more months before an article could be ready due to needing to prove the rifle in several [ once a month ] matches.

I certainly hope no one is taking me wrong here. I even debated posting this question as i really didnt know how to ask it properly. I really really love this site, and i spend a lot of time here. I wouldnt have the slightest idea about maintaining a web page!! I am doing well to just turn my computer on. Please dont take me wrong as i have no ill intent!! This is my favorite site on the net!! Lee

Lee, I see your post as saying 'I love this stuff, I wish there was more!' and I think so does everyone else! No offense taken in any way. Heck, I wish there was more too!

I was out with some friends this morning, shooting both my .22 PPC and the 30-06 tubegun, both Gun of the Week features). We had a lot of fun, and then some pizza. I could write more if I weren't shooting so much! LOL...

I know i am crazy, but i have a good reason. I am married and have two little girls 9 and 6. They dont show much interest in any of this stuff but thats ok. I have a great women that lets me be me. I guess i am bored most of the time. The girls have ball games 4 night a week and i enjoy that and watching them play. I am not much of a home fixer upper guy, but i do like yard work for the most part. Shooting has always been a big part of who i am. I love this stuff, and i love reading and talking about it. It seems my mind never slows down. LOL!! I am just a big kid that enjoys the life i have been given. Things are good and there always seems to be a little extra money for my passion. The rifle stuff is still pretty new to me as i was a shot gunner for the last 10 years. I had some success with it, but i got a bit bored. There is only so much you can do with a shot gun. The rifle world is never ending! There is always something to learn or discover. I am lucky to have a childhood friend in my town,Mason) that enjoys rifles as much as i do. He is a tuff shot, so that keeps me trying. I hope i dont ever offend anyone here, I wouldnt ever mean to. I spend a lot of time at home with my family just hanging out down in the man cave looking for things to talk about, and read. I just never know what i will come up with next so stay tuned. thanks guys, this is a great site!! Lee
