Home-made sky screen

I got to try out my home made one piece sky screen today. All readings appeared to be normal, no surprises. It was a sunny day, but the angle of the sun was such that one of the sensors was not shaded.
Since I have muzzle brakes on the two rifles I was shooting today, I set the chrony 40" in front of the barrel.

Thanks for asking. My second set of factory sky screens were getting a little brittle and I kept reading about varying light conditions causing changes to the readings on chronys. So I thought a one piece screen might help. Someone else mentioned political sign material, so I went looking for some as I didn't want to wait for the elections to be over. When I stopped at a print shop, a small piece of the political sign material was leaning against the wall. I asked what the price was, and the shop owner said I could have it - free, as he just considered it scrap. I cut down the middle thru one side so it would fold and I added a shoelace around the center so the wind wouldn't blow it off.

You didn't have to wait for elections to be over to get a sign. Just take down Obama's signs, they won't mind, but it anyone tells you anything, tell them it's ok because Obama is ok with giving people free stuff. I'm sure they'll understand! ;D

LOL, Erik. Actually, I haven't been seeing any Obama signs here in AZ. And I would be very hesitant to use one of his signs for a sky screen - I sure wouldn't trust any of the readings, that's for sure.

Up here in WA State we call that a "Rain Shield".

I finally had to go to a set of IR sensors for my Chronograph as there often wasn't enough light to make my old Shooting Chrony reliable.

Political signs are great for Rain Shields but they won't let us use them at the range for targets. Some other stupid rule about "past or current political figure pictures" too. How's a guy going to express his displeasure with politicians. Can't seem to vote the worst ones out.
