Home made deer stands / let’s see em.

Spent the afternoon building a deer stand. The place where I’m going to put it would invite thieves and poachers so I decided to just build a stand that will “lag” into an oak tree ten feet up and I will take a Little Giant ladder each time I hunt to be able to get into the “stand.” I will be able to park within 20’ of the stand so moving a ladder is not a big deal. I’ll post some pics tomorrow. Now let’s see your home made stands.

Just finishing up a homemade hang on. I'll post pics once I add the plywood and paint the stand. Wanted a fold-up version of one that I made years ago. Something that I could transport flat on my quad rack. I think it turned out pretty good. Base is 34x42. It'll have a vertical/ horizontal conduit frame. Keeps heat in and cold out. A sheet paneling on top of the vertical conduit. Keeps heat in and also doubles as a bench top

Got it lagged into the oak tree this morning. Feels solid.

I usually gusset my right angle welds but that’s just me. You know your welds, I don’t. Oak trees have been good to me in early season. Good luck.

I like the idea of a ratchet strap too. Unless you have like three 8" lag bolts into that Oak. Even then I'd put a strap on it. The welds look fine to me from an engineering stand point, and I have a lot of experience welding galvanized box tubing.

My thought also, lags can pull or work loose, if that is all you are depending on to hold it up. I would add a ratchet strap for added safety and of course a safety harness on my person.

Looks great to me , heavy duty . Great Job !Way nicer than what I build, mine are usually maple saplings and tie wire as a make shift scaffold/stand.

Cut up 1/2” Rebar into 10” lengths and smooth the ends. Then drill 9/16” holes angling down 10 degrees with a auger bit for steps up high and 5/8” for lower steps to remove to keep intruders from using the stand. I usually hide them on the trail to the stand so I don’t have to carry them out.
I put 2500lb chain binders on everything, they can be padlocked.

It has 4 lag bolts into the oak. (3) 5/16" x 3 1/2” and (1) 1/4” x 6” lag bolts. I feel pretty good about The welds. I hate welding galvanized steel but that what I had. It was welded hot and burned deep.Heat effected zone is wide. I jumped up and down on it it when I had it fastened to my shop wall so is should hold.
I like the idea of using rebar for steps.

Those look great - maybe for young people. Then I think of the guy who managed a nearby plantation who loved to hunt deer out of portable stands - he is still paralyzed from the neck down.

May I suggest as safety harness?

It's about 12' from the bottom foot rest to the ground.. my buddy said to get a safety harness too.. might have to look into that.. I have branches to hold on to get in and out. only scary part is after hours leaving.. probably will take a flash light and head lamp.. The oak has perfect branches for hand holds and adding another foot step / landing step...may do that today.....

It is not how far you fall it is how or what you land on.
I know a guy that fell off a 3' stool broke bones in his neck, uses a walker now for around the house and wheel chair when he goes out.
Be safe never climb with out a harness.
