My son (22) went hunting this morning and was using a "hang on" he had put in place back in August. He was climbing into this stand before daylight this morning and just happened to notice the chain that wraps around tree at the top of the stand was unhooked!! The ratchet strap at the bottom was still securely attached and this was the only thing holding the stand up. The chain was still wrapped around the tree but had been unhooked. I asked him if he was sure he had latched it when he hung it? "Of course dad, I sat in it for awhile and trimmed some limbs". Those of you that are familiar with these know what would have happen had he stepped onto this thing. I shudder to think about it. I/he is not certain if it was sabotage by another, squirrels, or what?
I just wanted to get this out there if it helps/saves one person its worth it, will only take a couple extra seconds to thoroughly inspect the stand before applying weight to it. Your ladder or step system as well.
