Hog Roast

Congrats to all the winners and top finishers.

My pal Jim McGregor @jimmymac stood tall in the company of some of the nations best shooters. Jim has worked hard on every aspect of his program and persevered through equipment issues and other challenges. Proud of 'ya, man. :cool:
Al the story I got is Jim did it with a borrowed rifle
Congratulations @jimmymac

So this is a prime example of what not to do and part of what separates the winners from wannabes like me.

I had the neighbors gun tuned perfect. I changed powder charge after target one at 200 yards because I had too much vertical. The change was the right call and targets two and three were competitive. On target four I found a condition I was looking for and stuck 4 bullets into a tiny knot. The condition went away and I waited. With less than two minutes left, the condition returned and I shot, except the gun didn’t go off. It just made a pop. I had no powder in the case so when I extracted it, I ended up with a stuck bullet in the barrel. The clocks ticking and I want to run back to my reloading bench, grab a rod to clear the bullet and shoot my last round. I was told there wasn’t enough time left so the gentleman to my left let me use his gun to finish the group with less than 5 seconds left. As expected it went from a potential match winner, small group for the match and potential agg winner to dropping me to mid pack.

@jimmymac
In my range cart, which is at the bench with me, I keep a 5 or 6" long piece of 3/16" brass rod. Some folks call it a drop rod. If you stick a bullet, remove your bolt, stand the rifle on the butt end and drop the rod down the muzzle. It will dislodge the bullet and both will drop out the back of the receiver. Then back to shooting.
