Hog hunting from a helicopter

Texas passed it. It's now legal to shoot feral hogs from a helicopter. Not cheap but these guys are good.

Ted Nuget did this several mounts ago says best way to shoot at hog's is aim at the tail when copter and hog are going same way

"And this is sportmanship???"

No - nor is it intended to be. Those folks down in Texas have got a huge surplus of hogs, which are not native, and are ruining crops. I understand they can also cause problems for the native wildlife.

I agree that "hunting" from the air is not sportsmanlike, but in this case, it's more like spraying an ant colony or a hornet's nest - pest control.

Not trying to be a S.A. but would you say this if they were in your yard or farm? I doubt it if you have seen what they do to property. Any means possible...

Anybody wants to let me hunt there problems away I will gladly bring the ammo and guns. ;D South east out of jacksonville I will do it for free.

Yes this type of hunting in this situation is needed an is sportsmanlike. I have been to south carolina on hog hunts an have seen the destruction of these hogs when they overpopulate. They destoy hundreds of acres of crops an vegatation. So if anyone in the carolinas need help with the population control of hogs, just let me know , I will bring several people to help.. Turn on a little magic carpet ride an fly terrain an shoot them with 12 gauge buckshot..

Folks you could hunt these damn pest 24/7 on ranches with heavy cover and never make dent in the population once they're establish. They'll go nocturnal when pressured, they lay up in the thick cover all day and feed at night. We've trapped them, night hunted them, we've jumped them out of the cedars on 4 wheelers using AR's. I've drove the ranch roads with the owner spot lighting after baiting the roads. The ranch owner has even brought in helicopter gunners and we've still got a major hog problem on our lease. The hogs simply can't be hunted out on this 17,000 ranch. This ranch is divided into seven leases which supports a total of 60 hunters, each hunter usually kills a minimum of ten hogs each per year. The ranch foreman keeps his AR with him and trys to kill every hog he sees year round and yet we continue to have a hog problem.

I had developed a accurate load for the 35 Rem using Hornady 180gr SP shortly after I received this XP100-R in a trade with another forum member over a year ago. I had carried it to a deer stand on a couple of different occasions but never had a opportunity for a kill with it. I have a rule if a hunting weapon is going to stay in my gun safe it has to have at least killed once and this pistol was long overdue. In late April we were going down to our lease to fill protein feeders so I carried the XP along hoping to get a opportunity to take a hog with it. We keep four corn feeders running the year round just to shoot feral hogs in the off season, we do not shoot anything around any of our five on demand protein feeders, they are fenced to keep the cows and hogs out and are left as a safe haven for the deer. As you can see in the pictures that 180gr SP punched straight through doing little damage to the meat on this rather smallish sow. The bullet entered her left side just above the shoulder and exited the right dropping her right under the feeder where she stood at 142yds. I bet this sow wasn't over 6 or 7 months old and she was about ready to drop her first litter, no wonder they've become such a problem. We cleaned her and threw her in the smoker, she did provided us a couple of tasty meals that weekend.

They have completely destroyed areas south east from where I live. California Fish and Game has also been given the green light to kill as many as possible. The pigs in Ca. get BIG.

It's not supposed to be about "sportsmanship", it's about eliminating vermin. Hogs are a big problem in Texas. They'd probably use dynamite if they could.

Filling the chopper with gas would make my heart go thump thump in a big way. Toys for the boys is all I can say.

I can see a Huey with a "monkey belt" on and a M60 in my hands hooked to a 1500 rnd box. The ammo was free, I'm glad I didn't have to reload all those rounds.

It would be tough collecting those empites since they are mostly free falling out of the copter.

Maybe we should fly the Texas, Arizonia, mexican boarder and really make a dent in the vermin.
The other kind eh?.....To many liberals would not let that one by, even though they have no problem shooting our residents.

They make a big brass catcher that also catches links so that would not be a problem.
