Hodgon H414 vs Winchester 760

Hey everyone,

I am looking at working up loads for my .280 Remington using either H414 or 760. From what I understand, these 2 powders have a similiar burn rate.

However, which of these 2 powders can you recommend with regards to accuracy, velocity and small sd & es?

All replies, as always greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Michael.

Michael, I've used both of these powders over the years in several different cartridges....many, many pounds of both.

Even though they are very similar, include AA2700 in there as well), it's impossible to predict in advance which will perform best for you. Buy a pound of each and the targets and chrono will tell you. If you don't want to do that for some reason, try WW760 first. Or H414. Or AA2700. All three are good places to start. -Al

At an NRA Convention in Seattle many years ago I was standing at the Hodgdon booth when someone asked the Hodgdon rep what the difference was between 760 and H414. The rep said that the only difference was the same as between lots of the same powders. BUT I've noticed wide variations from lot to lot in H414.
