Hodgdon Superformance for 300 Savage

Anybody using this powder for a 300 savage? I've been reloading for 30+ years and usally use IMR 4064 or Varget for this round but it is hard to get. I was wondering if anybody is using the Superformance powders. I just got 2 pounds of it and can use it for other calibers that I load for but thought it may be a good powder for the 300 savage ( my favorite rifle)

I havent found a single cartridge it would work good in. I cant imagine it would be ideal in yours either but you should give it a try if you cant find your usuals

Never tried Superformance in 300 Savage but Leverevolution is close on the burn chart, just a little faster. 43.5 gr of Leverevolution & 150 gr Pro Hunter from Sierra had a 2764 fps... and PP2000 MR runs 2700 fps with 150/155 gr Hornaday bullets with 46.6 grs as max charges...accuracy? Fast, yes. So you could work up some loads with Superformance and see...start low, and move & up, ladder test, looking for signs of pressure as the powder charge steps up in tiny increases and look for stable velocity areas, while your at it. STOP when pressure is observed....and pull bullets of the higher chargers. Presto... the right powder charge for that bullet in your rifle...for Superformance. The highest velocity and an idea of where to search for the best accuracy, has been achieved. More or less..."don't blow your face off", rule number 1, and share your findings either way.

Leverevolution under Hdy Interliock 150gr, or Winchester 147gr M80 are both outstanding in my 300 Savage Rem Model 81.
Never chronyd, but its 2moa with open sights.

I don't know what I was thinking when I bought it. After looking at the chart I think it is to slow but I'll give it a try and see what happens. I may have two one pound paper weights. I will follow Ray123's advice and try not to blow my face off. It might ruin my day. If I have any luck with it I will post it.

Nick, how have you made out with your superformance powder?

Today I ran 55.5gn in a SAAMI 280AI 140 PP PSP 3.285" OAL, it Magnetospeeded 3350 with single digit SD 5 shots. Accuracy was not competition worthy but shows potential for field use.

someone posted a newer burn rate chart and it showed superformance right next to H4831. To me that says 25-06 and 6.5-284. 7 rem mag????

I got as far as building a work up but life got in the way of fun and I had to set it on the back burner for a while. Bummer.

My son in law and I worked up an '06 load with it. 58.5gr w/178gr ELD-X. 2830 fps in my M70. I like the extra 150 fps or so it adds. Groups and shoots well for me. His gun (1903-A3) likes the StaBall 6.5 slightly better for that bullet.

I'm using Superformance in my 6.5 CM under 140 gr ELD-Ms with very good results IMO.
