Hobson 4198 Powder

A friend of mine is needing Hogdon 4198 powder, anyone know where it is available?

General consensus is it'll be available after the Ukraine and Gaza wars are over. There's an older thread where the poster contacted Hogdon and was told it wouldn't be made for the foreseeable future.

Commercially, yes. Though unlikely, some may be found at local shops and/or estate sales.

Me and my smokeless muzzleloader buds use it and we're hanging on to what we have. Also use it in the 17 Fireball. After it runs out, IMR4198 is the replacement.

Your friend had better start testing replacement powders....
That's what others are doing now and have said they might not ever go back.
Cause if it does comeback, it will sell out immediately, for quite a while
till they can catch back up with demand.

Any one have any further speculation? Are they not making it due to redirecting resources to more needed powders or is H4198 being manufactured and diverted to military contracts?

Can't find any HOBSON 4895 or 4227 either.

I left hobson and wont go back, ever. Plenty of powder now

Come on guys we all make spelling mistakes. James, depending on what your friend is loading the 4198 in, he might check out CFE Blk as a replacement for now.

H4198 is a good powder for sure, I have a stash but if I didn’t I’d probably be looking at something similar in burn rate in the Vihtavouri line of powders. As stated above when H4198 does finally hit the market it will get bought up fast, if your lucky you'll land some but instead of waiting for it I’d just move on and take a look at a good substitute. The cartridge you intend to load for isn’t mentioned, I use H4198 in a few smaller cartridges, 222 being one of my favorites. VVN133 does a nice job in 222, so does imr4198 and a host of others. You can get your hands on most of the Vihtavouri and other powders that would work and your done worrying about finding H4198.

Hodgen will tell you IMR 4198 is the same, I have found some of that on line, so that would be out of the question? ALL the information in the world at their fingertips and can't find a thing.

I absolutely hate the spelling and grammar police but I think in this thread it was all in good fun and he did spell it correctly in his post just not the title. That’s good to know about the cfe I saw another post the other day about it I’m gonna have to check that out.

It will be here tomorrow
It will be here the day after that
It will be here when Halley's comet comes back
It will be replaced by H4199

And something I don't have to speculate on:
