High Standard HD Military Updated

I had a rusty HD Military with a 4.5" barrel that was in a Ziplock bag. Then I met a guy who owns Advanced By Design in Columbia SC, about an hour from me. He converts old HD's to and updated version of the suppressed model used by the OSS in WWII, by using a modern baffle system. I carried it to him and let him work his magic. He repaired a broken hammer strut, re-parkerized it, and put on the integral suppressor in a little over a month. Form 4 came in on day 14 of submittal. I tried to upload a video, but I really don't want youtube knowing my business. I will say with CCI Quiet it is very, very quiet. Barrel is about 7.5". I can't wait to compare it to my other rimfire suppressors.

Does the action stay locked closed on firing? Even with 60 gr 22lr subsonic ammo, we could hear a different model fire, 75 yards away.

I had an HD years ago. No silencer on it.

The goverment marked silencer, i came across in the 70s, was a lot shorter, if i remember correctly?

The slide does not stay locked; it acts like a normal 22 automatic. I have read internet rumors that they stayed locked and had to be manually cycled. Not true. I believe this myth started because the HD has a takedown leaver and slide release on the right side of the gun. The takedown lever could be mistaken for some kind of locking system. However, with mine, if I want to make it super quiet I can firmly press my support hand thumb on the slide so it doesn't move on firing; then it is even more quiet.

Today I pulled up to a friends house who was in the yard working on a golf cart about 50' away. I fired 5 shots I asked him what he thought and he said he heard something, but didn't know where or what it was. However, this one uses an updated baffle system. I haven't taken it down to count the baffles yet. This gun is the same length as the original.

This is what the original WWII design looked like. I did see an original once and they drilled holes in the barrel to vent gas and make sure the round left subsonic. The holes were surrounded by a roll of copper or brass mesh, then from the end of the barrel to the muzzle they stacked washers made from mesh screen.

Reminds me of ISU 22 short rapid fire gun in the 70s.
