Also so a cheap easy fix that you already have is a phone or iPad. I also added a sewing needle to the pointer.

I looked for one that used the finest Multicoated German optics. My wife said to be happy with this one.

I've got one of those hydraulic dampened scales, I played around with different weight oils in mine. Seems like 20wt silicone oil worked best for speed and dampening.

I tried 10 weight but found it offered no detectable increase in sensitivity. It did however prolong the settling of the beam.

The scale I’m using was made in the 1950s. Anyone using a digital scale that old? Anyone have a digital scale that they think will last 70+ years?
