High Power Metallic Silhouette

I shot high parasol that for years or the six 5 x 47 Lapua and really enjoyed it except the recall suck but the gun shot excellent then I went to 6BR hated it because it rocked the animals so I just built last year six GT which is 100,000 larger than then the Dasher if I had to do over again, I would’ve built a Dasher cause they’re great out to 600 yards and don’t require anything special because everybody has a Dasher and knows how to set them up but I built this GT with a seven twist barrel shooting 115 grain burger bullets and it is really really nice. I wish I’d had it years ago when I was shooting a six 5 x 47, but it really does a good job and very happy to have it.

I just realized that I never did say what I used for a HP silhouette rifle. I shoot a 6.5CM built on a short action Model 70 Winchester. The 6.5 is more than adequate (shooting 140's) to take down the rams at most ranges. My second rifle is another 6.5CM on a pre-war Model 70 action. The first rifle has a Mark Pharr pattern stock from Steve Wooster. The second one has a home made walnut stock from me. I shot 108 Lapua bullets for chickens, pigs, and turkeys and 139's for rams. Both rifles shoot sub-moa. In fact, both will usually stay inside 5/8. Although I like Winchesters, I can't really recommend them. I think a better choice is a Reminton-type action. This just because of available trigger options
A comment on the rams:
Many clubs make a point of setting the rams light. That is, they set them so a portion of the foot overhangs the platform. This makes it easier for the ram to be taken down. I have seen some as well where the base is tilted to the rear enough to move the balance point back and make the target easier to take down. This may be due to requests from people shooting the lighter cartridges (like the 6mms). My knee-jerk reaction is that the rams are supposed to be hard to take down. It was part of the game. On the other hand, when I put one of my 139's into the dirt behind the ram, it never goes down. Hitting the darn thing is the main part of the game. It does get to the point, however, that we might as well just hang a swinger. I think something is lost. Just an opinion. WH

Every silhouette shooting spot is like that. So bad that its hard to even find a match because of the guys not even wanting new shooters around spoiling their fun
Not just silhouette clubs, unfortunately. People go on and on about wanting/needing more shooters for matches and then deny them entry to their club. My home club has dropped about 50% in competitors over the past 5-6 years, but still limits membership.
