!!!!!HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!!!HIGH PRESSURE

STEVE, WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO SEE YOU ARE OK!

Thanks for all the words of wisdom!

In reading everyone's post, it reminds me of my 338 Edge. I shoot a med charge according to everyone else's post! But it almost scares me to shoot it as it sounds like the gun is going to blow up everytime I shoot it! Shooting 92.0+ grns of powder pushing a 300 grain pill put unbelievable pressure on the bolt & barrel! Bolt action is smooth, I guess it's set up to handle the pressure.

Does anyone have any stat's as far as chamber pressure on this gun? 338 Edge

Just wondering, and Steve's post is makng me think about it!

I also have a 6.0x47 I was shooting with a hot load! First sign, bolt/bullet slid in like butter. Bolt would not pull the brass out of the chamber after firing, I couldn't even pick the bolt up! I tried it a second time and both times I used a 2x4 to open the bolt. I immediately quit, asked for advice, and was told to dis-arm the bullets I was shooting! I was VERY close to the point you were with my ammo!

I am not trying to step in Steve's post, but wanted to share my similiar situation which I fell everyone needs to know! When ever I see "start low and work up to this charge", I listen!

Again Steve, I/we are glad to see you will in good shape in a few days!

Dennis

Reminds me of a time I went to the range close by my old house to shoot a .338 model 70. I got to the range, hung targets ,and got set up on the bench.
As i settled in behind the gun I took out a shell and placed it in and closed the bolt. I adjusted things abit, took the safety off and then for some reason ( Divine Intervention) I put the safety back on and opened the bolt. I took the bolt out and looked down the barrel. There sitting about two inches in front of the chamber was a cleaning patch. Dang ,I said to my brother, I bet that would have been a mess. All these years later I still can not picture a way for a 250 gr. nosler partition to get past that patch and me not needing an E.R. I have no idea what made me check the barrel but , I go to church every week thinking that sometimes God does these little lessons in life to make us learn!!!!!

WOW, you were very lucky. Get healed up and get back out their. Glad to hear nothing serious happened and your eye will be fine.

Take care,
Dan

First of all,Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I was very lucky. Just got back from the eye specialist had a piece of steel removed just outside the cornea and one piece embedded to deep in the cornea to risk removal. Doc says it will be OK as the steel is tiny and stainless. Had six more pieces removed from my thumb, one from my chest and eight from my face. I will never ever again shoot without safety glasses and most of all LISTEN TO MY GUN. It tried its best to talk to me but I ignored the signs because of the pressure of competition. Thanks Guys and when your sign comes on PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO IT!!!!!

Glad you came out of it ok. Question for anyone else......does the gun itself being hot have anything to do with it? (besides the case heating up sitting in a hot chamber).

You have inspired me to buy a new pair of glasses. My old ones are scratched up and I never wear them. I also spent the 2 bucks for a microfiber bag to keep them in so they won't get scratched.

Never EVER forget this when going in for xrays and MRI's in the future. Have a uncle that is blind in one eye because he "forgot" that he had metal there and the MRI moved it around.

I had a .250 Savage, built on a M-700 Remington action. The loads were 117 Gr Sierra Spitzers and H-4895 Powder. The loads were within data parameters.
One case separated at the head and sent molten brass into my face. I was wearing aviator style safety glasses which saved my eyes. I had 1st degree burns on my face and had the eyebrows and eyelashes burned off. The Bolt head looked like a mushroom after it was forced out of its counter bore in the back of the barrel. The stock was split. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!!!!
Hope you Heal with no loss of eyesight, Steve!

Very interesting information!

I guess you mean the magnet's in the scanner were so strong they moved the piece of steel in the eye around causing permanent damage?

Something to remember!

As per the MRI with a piece of steel in the eye---Every MRI tech SHOULD query you about the possibility of any metallic foreign object in the eyes. Even to the point of requiring x-ray of head PRIOR to MRI if any chance of it. Even if you tell them you have been grinding metal you will trigger an exam before the MRI.
Those questions are normal standard of care.
And yes, you can do substantial damage to the eye if there is metal in there and the MRI moves it around, ie, pulls it out with the very high magnetic field it induces.

Thanks Guys for the heads up on the MRI. I will keep that in mind. My good friend John Whidden who lives about 25 minutes away will be taking the barrel off of the action today so I can send it to Defiance. They will make the call on whether its trash or not. I have a feeling the news wont be good. They were concerned yesterday it might be a design flaw. I told the guy on the phone there was as it wasnt IDIOT PROOF. He thought that was really funny. When I told him the rest of the story I think I put his mind at ease.

I got to admit it is a breath of fresh air knowing somebody ins't trying to blame someone else over an accident. Sometimes I swear we have no personal responsibility left in the states.
