Hercules v. Alliant RE15

Just trying to save some time and some powder. Does anyone have an inkling as to whether the old and the new are of the same or as close as one lot to another in burning rate? Dug a couple of RE 15 oit of the powder cabinet and was wondering how many grains I might have to drop back ignored to work up a load from the one I was using with the A-RE15.

How about your exact cartridge, what brass and bullet and maybe I can look it up in one of my old books.

Call there help line at (800) 379-1732. If you look at the 2 here, they appear different and use different chemicals. http://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=131 and http://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=9 Ask Alliant http://www.alliantpowder.com/questions/default.aspx

Thanks, JBM, I didn't realize or was too dumb to notice this had to go in a cartridge. I dug around thru some old literature and found an old Hercules data "manual". This was for a 308W w/168NCC. The old data suggested that it, the Hercules, is a bit slower than the Alliant. Ran a few rounds down range and it seems like it takes about 1/2gr more to get the same effect. Not chronograph, just holes in the paper at 300M. Preliminary results suggest precision in this gun may be better w/ the old stuff. At this point 43.8gr is getting the bullet to the target before the target crew,me, gets there and the clusters were encouraging. Wish I had more of the stuff.

243, thats some interesting stuff. The only thing is the stuff I have came in cardboard and labelled Hercules. I took a look at the granules and they are the black stubby ones. They are also more uniform and cut cleaner. Thanks again, Ill have to take a longer look at that site, it is intrigueing.
