Helping a newbie with reloading...

I recently made the leap into 6BR after trying F class for a few matches with factory rifles. I guess I did what all beginners should do, I looked at what the people having success were using and asked lots of questions.

My question has to do with dies. Based on what I had read here and what I had asked, I went with a much simpler "normal" versus tight-neck chambering...

Should I have both a neck and a full-legth seating die?

Can you suggest a particular die or set?

Can you please explain "bumping" of the shoulder for me?

Thanks so much!!

Couple of ways to go here. You can buy a Redding Competition bushing die set which gives you a micrometer neck die, a micrometer seater, and a body die which you can use to bump the shoulder. A great set but isn't cheap.,This is what I personally have). Or to save a bit of money buy Redding S dies without the micrometer feature, or substitute the Forrester micrometer seater for the Redding to save $$$.
You could also send the Harrells three fired cases fired three or four times each and $70 and get a custom bushing die that will bump the shoulder every time.
I use the Redding body die to shoulder bump about every four or five loadings, but this adds an extra step to reloading.
Get in touch with James Phillips at the Reloaders Nest, not reloadersnest.com) he'll give you a price break on items he deals with. Shop around on price you can save $$$ or just say the heck with it and order everything from Sinclair.

Hi

There are a lot of die makers and a lot of advice from different people on what's the best dies and way to use them.

"Bumping" I equate to minimal sizing for reliable function.

That depends on you application- will it be in a micro toleranced BR action or will it be in a woods hunting rifle.

A minute speck or dirt in the chamber can cause a BR gun to malfunction, where a rifle built on a Sprinfield 03 action or Enfield wouldn't even notice.
There are vast accuracy differencesbetween what these 2 rifle types can produce.

For $70 odd dolars plus some postage there and back I recommend you send a few fired cases to the Harrels and let them choose a die to suit you application, BR, F-class, hunting what ever you tell them it's for.

Cheaper than upwards of $200 for full custom dies.
Really not that more expensive than a Redding Type S die set.

Just my opinion...others may differ.
