Help With New Pack, Rifle and Other Gear

walker2713

My Boy Hap....
I'm 76 and in good health, and love to hunt coyotes by myself and with others. I've been carrying my gear (caller, remote, small binocs, range finder, etc.etc) in a bag slung over my right shoulder, and my rifle slung over my left. Generally I carry my folding seat and shooting bipod in my hands.

After taking a spill a week ago while hunting in NM, I realize I needed to re-organize how I "load up." Fortunately the damage was minimal...except to my ego , but I wasn't able to get my hands in front to break the fall.

After researching the situation and talking with friends, I checked out packs that would carry my rifle safely and securely, as well as my other gear.

I purchased and have received my Eberlestock Gunrunner pack, and it holds the rifle and gear very well. I am VERY pleased with it!

My question for you: what's the best way to attach my bipod and folding seat to the pack? I've searched some Molle possibilities, but so far haven't been successful.

Please take a look at this photo, and tell me what you think.

Thanks,

George

PS: called and killed two on the hunt.....

Buy the compression strap extenders and strap them to the outside of the ruck.

Relocate the gear in the two outside pockets and use them for to put the feet of the chair and bipod in.

Great suggestion: I ordered a 3 pack of the 12" straps from Eberlestock, and I'll use two of them on the Molle web to strap the folding seat to the back of the pack.

I realized looking at my photo, that I could easily slide the bipod in next to the rifle.

Sounds like Eric took care of your dilemma. Another thought I had was to pick up a long storage bag with a cinch on one end (kind of like the ones camp chairs fit in only smaller). Slide your chair and bipod in that cinch bag and use those compression straps to secure it to your pack. Guess it's an option.

Glad to see you still trekking there George, good luck with the yotes. Next week several of us "young guys" (67 - 70 years old) are heading out to SD to hunt pheasant, then to Chama for an elk hunt. We plan to carry on the annual trip as long as we can, something to look forward to in order to stay young.

Here's a photo my son-in-law took after I called and killed one this past June.12932583_497420237133470_8388451094666237208_n.jpg

Good luck on your hunts.....

Here's the pack with the rifle and bipod in the slot, and the folding seat on the right. I'm looking forward to trying it out next week in NM.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.

My report: I took the pack and my gear out for a day of hunting and scouting on BLM land south of Carlsbad NM a few days ago....and I was very pleased with how it worked.

What I found worked best for me, was to put my folding seat and bipod in the slot of the pack, and carry the rifle in my hands.....no sling. It gave me a lot of flexibility in how I held the gun....single-handed, port arms or nestled in the crook of my left arm. It was very comfortable...thank you Eberlestock!
