Help with info shipping rifle stock to Australia

I just sold a B&C Medalist stock on ebay. The winner is from Australia. Right before shipment, I found that there might be export restrictions. I haven't been able to find a straight explanation on what the process would be. I had one person that to get an export license for the stock would be costly and timely. All help is appreciated.

For information on how to permanently or temporarily export a handgun, rifle, their parts or their ammunition from the United States, please contact the U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) or call (202) 663-1282.

The permanent export of a handgun, rifle, parts, or ammunition requires the exporter to register with DDTC and to complete a permanent export license application via D-Trade.

Temporary exports of handguns, rifles, parts, or ammunition may either require the submission of a temporary export license or to qualify for an application license exemption. Additional information can be obtained at the Dept. of State website.

Best bet is to not be an International seller.........

Shipping a rifle stock to Oz??? DON'T EVEN TRY!! Been there, done that. Couple of years back I thought I'd help a guy out. Sent a shot gun stock to Oz. The Guy never got it. Was held up in Customs. Customs went after him. Treated him like a terrorist. Took his computer and raked him over the coals.
If YOU don't have an import license, don't even think about it!!

Avoid potential hardships for you and a buyer...do not send items overseas...unless you are both properly licensed.

I'm in New Zealand (slightly different to Australia) but in the last few years have had stocks and stock blanks shipped to me, absolutely no problem with blanks still a bit of wood until shaped.

I've never had a problem with a stock being sent to me either, these usually being used stocks from private sales, one seller phoned BATF after UPS said he couldn't ship it International and BATF said no problem it's under $100 so no export permit required, stock was sent using USPS.

So of the several stocks I've had from the US (all sporting/target rifle) in the last few years there has been no problems getting them sent and no problems for the sellers.

I do not require an import permit to bring a rifle stock into NZ, where as Australia may require an Import permit, this maybe the difference.

The only delays I have had is when Customs in NZ have checked the wooden stocks for any unwanted borer or bugs, I had one stock blank fumigated, but apart from that no problems.

If exporting firearms parts valued at under $100 to certain countries or $500 (Canada only) then you do not need to be licenced or need an export permit, over those values then refer to BATF as others have advised.

A Rifle Stock may most likely for Australian Customs be classified as a "Firearms Part" , maybe but it's safer to presume it will be.

Simple solution, you obtain a B709 Permit (Firearms Import Permit). They are obtained from whatever State's Firearms Registry, FREE of Charge and can be filled out plus submitted Online. It seems really to check that you are a Licenced Firearms Owner and hold a Licence for the Category of Firearm you require the item for. They may take a few weeks to issue.

Once the item arrives if asked by Australian Customs you simply send them the Permit and they release the item.

All at no cost.

Check the AWB,Patriot Act & ITAR regs-

Any firearm part of $100.00 or less in value you're on easy street to ship internationally from the USA.
Any firearm part of $101.00 or more will require an export license.

The shipper is responsible for compliance.
