Help with Dakota Varminter

After about 50-75 shots my Dakota Varminter in 6mmBR stopped ejecting fired brass. It will extract from the chamber but I have to reach in and remove it. Suggestions? Thank you.

I've seen this with worn extractors that do not hold the case in place so it can be extracted but it's rare and probably not the cause of your problem. Mostly observed this with floating Remington 700 extractors. Like the other poster stated, I would suspect the ejector spring first and foremost.

Also, sometimes case rims wear out prematurely from extractors cutting into the case rim. This is easily diagnosed by examining the rim for cutting and wear and / or testing the ejection of new cases. I had this happen with a Weatherby Mark V 223. After about 5 reloads, the cases would not consistently eject but lay in the magazine well.

Sometime brass particles accumulate under the extractor interfering with the extractor's ability to hold the case in place so it can be ejected. Regular cleaning under the extractor lip prevents / cures this problem. However, said accumulation has to be excessive to affect ejection which is also rare.

PS: One of the many reasons I love Tikka's is their superior extractor / ejector design. The worse I've ever experienced are the Remington 700's in small cartridges, i.e., 222 and 223.

I had a little piece of brass make the ejector stick in the in position on a Remington 700 action. Cleaned it out and has worked fine every since. So what I am saying is check to see if some gunk has it stuck before replacing any parts

Is this a new or used rifle? If it's used, previous owner may have cut or removed spring. I can't remember if that rifle has a plunger type ejector.

Yes it has a plunger and a few various extractors over the years. Its basically a tiny nesika single shot

I am away on duty until Thursday. I will look at the extractor when I get home. The ejector is the plunger type and it moves freely. The rifle was unfired when I purchased it and it now has 350-400 ( will have to check my shooting log ).
