help with custom 308

A local gun shop has on his shelf a Remington 700 in 308 but with a neck of .332, he has no idea who did the work,Trigger and assuming action was done) or who made the barrel,SS 24"), and no dies. Does have custom base and rings Looks basically like a sendero that someone had re-barreled and then bedded, possibly a hunter class gun?

Is this some thing worth getting into? How much would you pay for a rifle like this?

one way to tell if it might have been a hunter class rifle would be to check its weight.10 pound or under,,if the weight is over that it might have been a home range varminter or back yard target rifle..either way you will need bushing dies with this rig, something in the line of 228-229 should get it going.......check the twist rate and be very careful if you decide to buy this gun..most factory reworked rifles are worth less to most people then a pure factory rifle, even if its in a wore out state,,most assume the custom was either a failed project or is shot out........lw

Agree w/JB1000BR, but I wouldn't go $600, maybe $400 - $500 or so... Depending on how good it looks.

A custom rifle from a well known, respected rifle builder is one thing. A Rem 700 with an unknown replacement barrel and a bedding job from an unknown smith is just a Rem 700. Might be a good one, might not be...

If I was looking for a Rem 700 .308, I'd consider it for $400 - $500... Regards, Guy
