Help with a new leupold

So I sent in scope for repair and have been told it is not repairable.

They of course are offering a replacement.

7-35x56 mark 5
Or a 8-32x56 mark 4 are the two in looking at. I know I definitely want to stay in MOA and not switch to a mil setup.

The mark 4 has similar locking knobs for elevation, versus the mark 5 has a short capped windage knob and a taller lockable elevation knob.

The 45 competition is now out of production, so that scope is not an option.



The big question I have is Front Focal Plane ? How well or not well will the FFP work for 850 to 1000 yard silhouette shooting ?

FFP scopes are well suited to unknown yardages, as they can be used to range targets where the target size is known but not the distance. SFP is by far best for BR and imo, all known yardage shooting. The reticle gets bigger as magnification is turned up on a ffp. Not so on a sfp scope...the reticle stays the same on those at all magnification settings.
 
I am a huge fan of the 7-35 VX5. For my eyes there is not a clearer scope on the market. It has nice lines not too bulky and doesn't really have all the tacticool crap you don't need. The TMOA reticle is really nice when holding for windage.

It's discontinued, the Leopold site has not been updated. If you check other sites you'll find it's gone...

Yeah I asked for the 45 almost instantly but was told it’s “out of production, but not yet discontinued.”
It literally would have checked all my boxes in order to make light gun weight at Ridgway.
As it stands now I’m looking at pulling a 6.5-40x50 vxiii LR off of another rifle.

Not ideal at all but I’m trying to put up a pole barn this year while our shithead of a president still has everything sky high as far as cost goes. I also have little to no faith in our voting public changing to the red side for president as their unfounded and unjustified hatred for one man is far greater than ones love of America.

I would greatly appreciate the continued chime in on opinions on the scope situation. I’m still kinda flabbergasted at the offer of a list price 2800 scope and the denial of a 1500 list price 45 Competition.

Worst part of this is that the scope tract well and glass and reticle was great. Just the adjustable objective had to be literally two hand adjusted, makes it miserable for set up and fine tuning.

That is the second focal plane one , if I am correct?
 
Pretty much matches the time frame they have had one I sent in for warranty repair. They initially quoted approx. 5 weeks. Now they are saying longer. Not the same Leupold that they used to be. I will be looking at different optics going forward.
 
Those are really long times compared to what I've experienced. I had a VX-II 6x18 with target knobs and dot a couple years ago that shot fine but had lost seal and there was some buildup behind the front lens, that one was maybe three weeks turnaround. Then last fall my other one with duplex and no turrets was having bad tracking issues, I dropped it off and had it delivered to the house within a week. So might be more like time of year and maybe model. Both mine came back factory new and zero issues since. They can't do much for finish issues, mine were still mostly without any scuffs but I meant mechanically like new.

Eurooptic had one of those 45 comp a while back, now I kinda wish I'd have picked it up.
