Help with .098 FB Dasher

I've been working with my dasher for a while now and just can't get it to shoot under .4. My 6hagar that I use for XTC shoots in the 1's so that's my comparison.

I'm hoping I'm missing something small, but I'm running out of ideas.
Groups are round, just big.

My reamer is a PTG .269 neck .098FB
Blue box lapua
BARELL is a Schneider .236 1-8 at 30" mounted in a R5 on a trued and blueprinted R700
Tried all the popular primers (wolf SRM has been best so far with under 5 SD)
I've tried every reasonable powder and Varget seems to work best.
I'm trying to get the 105 hybrids to shoot but have tried the 105 VLDs with same success. Tried jamming and jumping. Light and heavy neck tension.

Anyone have about the same reamer with the 98 FB and are you doing anything different than the "normal" things discussed on this board?

Thanks, Jim

I have a Dasher w/112FB .2704NK that is about 4 months old. Currently at 304 rounds. The one thing that has stood out in my load development has been: if using RELOADER 15 if I was jumping the bullet a CCI BR4 was the best primer by far, and if jamming the CCI 450 was better.

It's just the opposite when using Varget. When jumping the CCI 450 is great, but when jamming the BR 4 was head & shoulders above the 450.

Bat DS action, Bartlein 29" HV 8T 5r .236 w/Vais break, Nightforce BR 12-42 DD on top of a Precision Rifle & Tool Lowrider stock. ES 12.2 SD 5.3

You are turning your necks, right? .269'' in not a no turn with blue box. I have the same reamer with a .104 f.b. .006'' makes no difference. Try some a max's. There comes a time when you end up spending more in components trying to make it shoot than a new barrel would cost. I have learned that lesson. 200 rounds, if it aint shooting it comes off. JMO.

Yep, skimming necks. I do have some amax on hand. Will give them a try. Thanks. Hope I don't have an expensive future fire form barrel.....

What bullet are you using? If you are using a 105H your free bore is too short, you need .125 min. Take a loaded round and hold a bullet next to it and see where the heel of the boat tail is, in the shoulder neck area i bet. Seat them about.010 in and give them a try....... I use .135-55 Free bore, these bullets are very long........ jim

Jim, mainly the 105 Hybrid.

Dave said that the 98 FB was perfect for this because it would burn into the sweet spot and stay there longer.

I'll try what you said. Thanks

223, If the bullet is back in the shoulder area all kind of wild stuff happens. A way too find out is to run a expander in the neck and then size it down part way on the neck, this will keep the bullet from contacting the shoulder area with the heel of the boat tail. I use a a K&M arbor press with a force indicator and if contacts this area you will see a spike in seating pressure. By expanding that area will work but it is better to have more free bore. The 105 H is almost as long as the 115 DTAC..........jim

223,,,you should try 105 VLD's....they shuld seat above the donut while jammed and are a proven bullet....I hav had several good 6mm bbl. and ONE bad one ....it was a .236 bore, like yours!!!! ....different brand, but no good,,,,sumthin to think about...maby try the Lapua bullet ???if the vld's dont do the trik...,,,,Roger

Thanks guys. Headed out in the am to try all of these suggestions out. Fingers crossed!

Range report from this morning:

Tried jamming the hybrids as Jim suggested with a range of charges, no change. Best was still about .4

Next I tried the same tests using the 105vld. The first group was a ragged hole! Working all the way up the worst group was maybe .3

Well, I built this to shoot the hybrids but that's not happening so next outing ill work on verifying what I found with the VLDs.

Interestingly enough all of the loads tested HY and BLD were very low SD and the highest ES was 16.

Just to make life easier I shot today at 100. Next test will be at 500, but it's looking like I need to buy more VLDs.

good news....now take a cupla of your fired cases and try and push a bullt in em with your fingers...if you find a donut,,,measure the overall length with the bullet sitting on the donut....that is as deep as you can seat that bullet in the case...now measure your length with bullets jamed ready to use...the diff. is the amount of clearance that particular style of bullet has in your rifle/ctg combo.....Ilike to stay aprox .010" above the donut minimum...dont forget to try Rx-15,,,Roger
