help to choose 17 caliber

i need some help. i have a 17cal 6 twist barrel i want to use for small varmints, squirrels etc.
but im not sure what cartridge nor bullet weight
i think i would like 25-30 grain pills but not sure
my intent is for the most accurate and to some degree long barrel life
thanks for the help

The 6 twist is made to shoot the 37 g VLD. It will probably over spin a normal weight thin jacketed varmint bullet and make it fail. My favorite 17 is the Mach IV, formed from Fireball brass.

I posted a post a bit back for 17rem. load help and have been told that their not makeing the 37grs any more.Sinclair Int. is only carrying up to 30gr FB pills.

Best choice overall is the 17 Fireball,Mach IV) or the 17 Rem....factory brass for both, dies, etc are easily had.
