Help Spec 6BRX reamer 95gr Berger VLD

Hi Guys,
I've been real happy with my lightweight varminter shooting the 95gr Berger VLD out of my 24" barrelled 1-8" twist 6BR with .271 neck at a chronographed 2785fps average with great accuracy (1/2 moa @ 650yds). My load is 29.8gr Varget, lapua case, CCiBR4 primer & the berger jammed 0.010 into the lands but this is a very hot load in my rifle. 0.2gr more powder leaves ejector marks & sticky bolt lift. After three loadings the primer pockets are already showing signs of loosening. I were thinking of rechambering to 6BRX for a small increase in speed and a reduction in pressure.
Question is what spec reamer, freebore etc should I be looking at to shoot the 95gr VLD with the BRX? Would PTG be the place to source said reamer from? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

fordnutter: Yes, for expert advice contact Dave Kiff, tell him what you want to do, and I've always sent him a "dummy" round with the bullet of choice ( the Berger 95 VLD/ also my favorite for 300+ yards) seated in a case to the depth of your choice. I prefer them seated with the full dia. at the bottom on the case neck. Also a good time to specify the chamber neck dia. ( .003" larger than loaded neck dia.?), and chamber o.a.l. ( I like .010" longer than max case length). You will then have a reamer cut to the dimensions of your choosing, not "catch-all"/ one-size-fits-all. The only way I buy reamers for new chamberings.

Sending them a loaded round for a 6 BRX is kinda hard when you don't have a gun allready chambered for one that a case can be fireformed for.....

I have been trying to get 6 BRX specs for 107's for awhile. Not much luck. I do have one set of PTG prints a board member was willing to send me. I also, will be calling PTG but just want to have as much facts as I can before I call them so it can at least be an intelligent conversation!.

BE SURE you tell them it is for Lapua brass if that is what you will use. I have found different 6BR specs and thus could lead to different 6BRX specs as well.

I noticed that Bob Crones 6 BRX oal length for the cartridge is longer than the 6BR and other 6BRX prints I have found. Allmost like he allows the brass to "grow" a little before trimming to give more neck support on the short necked 6BRX.??

Ken,

I have my reamer print from Kiff for my 6mm BRX. It is a .272 no turn neck, Lapua Brass, and a .104 leade for 107 SMKs.

If you are interested in a copy let me know at:

My 6 Dasher reamer has a .055 freebore. The 95 VLD's boatail/body juncture sits in the happy place just above the shoulder/neck juncture.

? Correct me if I am wrong, but does a Dasher not retain the same neck length as the 6BR?

Remember, the 6BRX neck is .100 shorter basically, so the bullet can not be seated as deep into the case , which means more freebore for the BRX vs the 6BR and 6 Dasher.

I am on the right track??

Thanks! Was not rying to be a smartbutt, just seriously trying to figure all this out. Seems like every print of a reamer I get my hands on are different. I know these are wildcats, but trying to find the 'norm".

thanks again!
I will add that to my notes on the Dasher.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm going to write this all down then talk to Dave Kiff about
what I'm after. No doubt he'l have some suggestions but at least I can be armed with
some sort of knowledge.

I sent an email to Dave Kiff & he has suggested to go with a 6mm BRX .271 neck, .098 freebore, 1°-30 lead angle. Does that sound about right?

Fordnutter,

That sounds right, mine is 0.187" for 105 Berer's. 0.098". should be good for 95's
