Help save the NRA

The best way to preserve 2A is to actively utilize that right.

Spend your time safely shooting for entertainment. Ultimately all organizations boil down to just being jobs for people that will come and go from them. Don’t rely on just that.

The ways I try to mainstream 2A are:

1) truly, buy specialty gun products, lots of them, give the good businesses your support and let them do better than break even in dealing with you;

2) don’t equate bargains on classifieds with supporting the current producers;

3) shoot matches;

4) maintain club memberships;

5) get kids interested in the physics, competitive purposes and when they are old enough defensive purposes of good shooting;

6) don’t screw up;, non-shooters shouldn’t pay for our mistakes. Every suspected or proven stray shot missing a berm or a deer, fast draw foot shot; unattended kid that found the gun, or accidental discharge gets around. It should get around, but as a means to minimize it;

7) don’t get ridiculous on the animal shootings; copious gun carnage videos and stories don’t prove skill or strength.

I have been an NRA member for a very long time and I have also been very dissatisfied with the management of the NRA for at least the last 10-15 years. In my opinion the NRA has become a very "top-heavy" organization, who's goal is to raise money to sustain itself, using the 2A as it justification. Yes, they have done much good over the years and yes, they are probably the most effective "gun" organization out there. But imagine how much more effective could they be if the money (that is ALL donated by members) was truly spent on lobbying and legislative efforts, instead of bloated executive salaries and BOD meetings held in exotic places.

The NRA is supposed to be a "NON-PROFIT" organization, organized to advocate on it's members behalf. It probably was at some point, but it isn't anymore. It's now a cash machine that allows it's executives to live lavish lifestyles, while pretending to represent us "little people" who believe in the 2A and just want to be left alone.

The thing that really pisses me off is they don't even pretend anymore - look at Wayne's lifestyle, which he seems to be very proud of. Where is the Board of Directors in all of this??? My God there appears to be 76 board members by my research. Don't they have a fiduciary obligation here? Maybe not, because when I look for their compensation I find nothing definitive, but lots of $6-figure numbers floating around. Why aren't they donating their time??? The NRA is anything but transparent when it comes to how they spend our money. But their is no question they want more of it. Every communication I get from them, always comes down to "send money".

I am truly saddened by this whole situation. I really question whether the NRA can be saved from itself. Only time will tell. Unfortunately, time is slipping away, along with our rights.

I was disappointed when Col. North was forced to leave, as he apparently lost the bid to clean up the mess.

Whatever the circumstances, we need people of integrity to lead the organization. They are in a unique position to lobby at a national level - something difficult for us to do as individuals.

With the current circumstances in politics, we need a healthy national voice for the 2nd Amendment and responsible gun ownership.

First, get rid of Lapierre, then ask people about a petition. He is overpaid, and mismanaging the organization.
There are other organizations that do a better job fighting the fight than does the NRA. GOA, NAGR come to mind.

The last I knew (not sure exactly when, but before the 2016 election) the NAGR appeared to be just a PAC with Rand Paul at the center of it. Once I joined the NAGR I was inundated with mail from Rand Paul wanting me to support him doing this and that, along with sending him donations. Now, I point to the NAGR because I received several letters from Rand Paul with the NAGR logo on the letterhead. I have nothing against Senator Rand Paul, but if I want to support him, let it be separate from an “independent” organization defending the Second Amendment.

The petition is to get rid of WLP, but maybe you didn't read it.

They are not going to leave the gold mine they have created until the gold is all gone. We are the only ones that send them money , it is up to us to cut it off. If that means that the NRA must die then i see we have no choice. But maybe the state of New York puts Wayne in jail.

Have you actually talked to any congressional offices and asked them who helps more? Who is leading the charge? I talk to a few offices pretty often. The key person you want to survey is the legislative director.

I stopped paying for my lifetime membership to GOA.

Thanks. I asked that question on the other NRA thread....no answers...just folks complaining.

Your should take a closer look at the nagr. and their associated orgs, widely alleged to be scams that make the NRA look good. If, you are funding the nagr, you are, in my opinion, doing a great disservice to the cause.

nagr scam
