help reading first ladder test

cal 7mm rem mag
powder h4831
bullet 160gr game king
col 3.248
rifle factory rem 700 adl
range 215yds
temp 83 and very little wind

this is my first time doing a ladder test and im not sure how to read what i shouldload next. hodgen says min is 58gr and max is 60gr. no load showed the least little sign of pressure. and i gave a minute or 2 cooling time between shots

i loaded in .4 gr incrments

gr velcity poi

58 2493 5.5 low-.3 left

58.4 2508 3.3 low-.2 right

58.8 error 4 low-.4 right

59.2 2495 3 low-.3 left

59.6 2545 3 low-.2 left (trigger jerk)

60 2537 1 low-.5 right

are these resolte so scattered i need to start from scratch and load some a little hotter?

6 shot's is far from enough for a decent ladder test.

20 is the basic/standard # of shots,,Then what you look for is 2-3 that land on the target in a somewhat similar vertical area,,horizontal spread is irrelivant.

.2 grain increments sounds about right to me,,,,,
also when I do a ladder test,I weigh each case to find 20 of the closest weights,Weigh bullet's also,,and I always trickle my last 0.1gr -0.2gr of powder,,,and measure runout,at least make sure they are 3thou or less,,,,and from a clean barrel fire at least 2-3 fouling shots.

42769vette,
If it has been working for you I won't argue but Imr or h-4895 isn't a powder of choice for the 7mm rem mag it is to fast IMO you need a slower powder 4350,4831,rl-22,or vv-165. There are many others but one in the burn rate of the powers I listed I think will work better for you.
Wayne.

thanks for all the help. 4895 is just the first powder ive tried. i like to stay with the hodgen extream line as this is a hunting rifle and in need the temp stability. i have 20+ pounds of h4350 i use for my match 260 so mabye ill try some of that.

im thinking ill re run the whole think and go by .2 gr incrments from 58.4-60.?. i want to find my max.

i did trickle charge. i sized the cases on a lee press then bought a coax for loading. next go around ill size on the forster. i had no runout what so ever wich was very impressive.

What am I missing here??
I looked up Rem 7mm Mag at Hodgens online data. They do not list H-4895. Its not in thier Annual reloading magazine either. Way too fast for the cartridge.
H-4350 is listed as 53.0 - 55.5gns for a 160gn pill.
60gns is max load for H-4831
That data would lead me to believe 60gns of H-4895 would be a suicidal proof load!!!!
I'm confused (and worried)

Beyond my perpetual confusion run your ladder in .3gn increments and post photos.

you missed a typo. im using 4831. sorry about that. thank god i pay more attention to my reloading than typing. im going to do another run and get pics. im going to run from 58.4-60.?. i may also give 4350 a shot

I reread the original post and the TYPO was mine not your's 42769vette. I don't know where I came up with 4895,I am sorry about that.although IMR-4895 is listed in Nosler for lighter bullets I still would be using the 4831 or 4350. Good Luck.
