Help picking a new action

I want an action that shoots. Number one priority is accuracy. I don’t need it to shoot multiple caliber or have any bells and whistles. It’s going to be a paper puncher most of the time but I will take it hunting so I don’t want it super heavy. It’s going to be a 6.5 Creedmoor and I would like to use a Proof CF barrel. The rest is up in the air. Some of the Borden actions look great but I don’t hear much about them. I plan to have LRI or Beanland do the smith work. Thoughts?

My choice would be a Defiance Rebel action.

Of all the various factors that go into a rifle's accuracy, the action probably has the least effect, unless it is specifically damaged or out of spec in some way.

Not my opinion. That of numerous highly regarded rifle builders I've spoken with. Your basic Remington 700 or Savage 10 action Has everything you need.... again so long as it is not damaged or out of spec. I've owned both of those and and they both shot well under half Moa .

If your budget is in any way limited, better off spending money on glass, barrel, bedding / chassis, reloading equipment & components and practice / training than dumping a bunch of money into a high end action.

See disclaimer, below.

Are you wanting a repeater or single shot ?

Borden Alpine action and let Jim build it. Another equal choice would be a Defiant action. A smith I highly respect is Karl Feldmap of Kampfeld Custom.

All good suggestions, above. You could put a good barrel on a Tikka and get what you want. On some, they shoot fantastic right out of the box. I’m a little partial to Tikkas. I think they have the smoothest bolt movement made. For a hunting gun, I’d go Tikka. Do some personal research. Find and operate the bolts on as many guns as you can.
If you want to get a custom, my vote is Borden.

I really like the Kelbly Atlas. The ability to have a barrel chambered for it w/o the gunsmith having the action in his hands is not to be overlooked. You can also get a spacer that allows the use of the 1.115 Panda tenon barrels to screw right on.

For a light weight rig (depending on the budget), the new Kelbly's Nanook is the box I'd check. ;)

And Jim Borden's stuff is always great.

This truly is the Golden Era for rifle building! :)

Good shootin'. -Al

If your top concern is accuracy, I would(did) call one of the leading accuracy smiths and have them help you with your options and then build it.

fwiw national level accuracy competitions usually release equipment specs :)

I’m not going to personally drop manufacturer names because I’m not qualified to do so, and would likely just be biased by liking my equipment/decisions.

Be careful with that thought. There are shops out there that advertise themselves as the “Be all, end all” of rifle accuracy and charge a lot extra for the name. You can spend $5-6 thousand on a gun that isn’t any more accurate than a $3000 custom. I made that mistake early on.
