Help Needed in Identifying Palma Rifle

image.jpeg image.jpeg I acquired this rifle many years ago and I've decided that I should do something with it. My interest now would be in F-Class and I don't know if this rifle is a good place to start. I also have both sights and a small Anschutz torque wrench that came with it. I'll post another thread with those items too.

I almost forgot to mention, but it would help me to know the value of everything.

Thanks
Richard

What does the medallion say? That will tell you alot about the rifle.

Looks like a robertson prone stock, is the action a 40X from remington?

McMillan Prone Stock with a Remington 40X action, Werner tool Iron sight base. Not sure of the trigger.
I have that same stock.

Yes...since you have the complete rifle, it would be a good way to get yourself acquainted to shooting F-Class Target Rifle (F-TR). You will need a decent bi-pod (I would advise against getting the Harris), and a scope. But, you will learn from this "rifle that you already have", and will later come to the realization of what it takes to get into the winners circle. Good luck. (FWIT, I went directly into F-TR with my Palma Rifle and a Harris...that's why I say go bigger than the Harris!!)

Get a Duplin bipod, it should fit your rail, and a forty something X NightforceVortexSightron scope and you will be good to go.

Only question left will be how much freebore do you have to load the 185Juggs. If you were shooting 155s you probably only have about a 90 or 95 freebore, more that that is better but you can still work up a good load and get out and shoot.

Thanks again for the replies. A couple things keep me from going the Palma direction, one is that I am having a difficult time already with my AR-15 with iron sights. Second, I don't see any matches in my area, but one fairly local range has 6x600 matches every month. That's a good place to start I think.

I've learned that the barrel is a 1:12 twist so I am good to go with my stockpile of 168 SMK. Now it is just a matter of time collecting enough parts to try it out at the range (plus load some ammo).

Thanks again,
Richard

Huge! Difference between the iron sights of that AR15 and the palma rifle.. like night and day! Please do not compare that palma rifle with the aperture sights to the AR15..

Also.. those 168's you have.. they are good for 600 yards ok.. but i wouldn't really think about using them beyond that.. considering that they were designed to be used in 300 meter competition back in the day..

I urge you to try shooting Palma. No finer sport to test one's shooting abilities. If that doesn't work, slap a scope on it and shoot any/any. That rifle was built to shoot from a sling.

If you use a rightsight up front you'll see the sights and target just fine. Trust me.
