Help identifying stock, hi power?

The only information that I currently have is they are Winchester model 70’s chambered in 308. I’m guessing they were built for some sort of positional shooting sport? Any information would be helpful, thanks.

They look like Palma or prone rifles to me. A bloop tube and the muzzles looked turned for aperture sights. This is not my strong suit but others should confirm shortly. Nice rifles!

I don’t recall the model name but that is very much like one of the McMillan highpower stocks that they sold forever. I bet if you can find an older catalog it’ll be in there. I don’t have time to search at the moment.

As said below it’s a Tubb designed stock. I was mistaken on where I had seen them.

Do the actions take stripper clips? [I'm pretty sure I don't see openings for box mags].

As others mentioned, one has a bloop tube on the muzzle to extend the sight radius for using with iron sights. The other is turned to accept a front sight base.

Those are David Tubb stocks. Those look to have been spray coated, more than likely by Alex Sitman / MasterClass stocks.
You’re correct, I was mistaken. I couldn’t remember where I had seen them and thought it was McMillan. There are many pictures of this rifle stock design in his Rifle Shooter book. He describes the design and construction in the book.

My guess is they’re for High Power “across the course” (200-300-600 yards, standing, sitting, prone). The one on the left looks to have a stripper clip guide attached, while the one on the right has been milled for stripper clip for the rapid fire stages of the match. Both are set up for iron sight use.

A true Palma rifle would have a 30” or longer barrel. Hard to tell from the photos, but those barrels look shorter. Of course, they could be used for Palma, but I don’t think the barrels are optimal length

Yeah. Just gotta look a little closer.

Thanks guys. That’s the kind of information that I’m needing. Fortunately,(or unfortunately) it appears that I’ve bought one of these. I’m buying one and a buddy is buying the other at a price we couldn’t refuse.

They look like Alex Sitman’s work. Should you be able to remove the action from one of them (it’s difficult to remove the action from a Sitman bedded stock) the bedding will be perfect.
I’m not an expert on Tubb stock design. They do look like 200/300/600yd XTC stocks as stated above.

Here’s what I wound up with. Pre 64 model 70, jewell trigger, 26” barrel not including the bloop tube. Chamber looks great , had a bit of carbon but virtually no fire cracking. It’s got a couple of chips in the finish and a scrape on the side of the barrel. The cheek piece has been relieved for removal of the bolt also. Now I have to figure out what I’m going to do with it. If anyone has a reasonable idea of its value I’d appreciate it.

Bolt gun match rifle prices are sadly, in the dumps. Ask that and hold your breath.
Only because its a pre-64, and by watching gunbroker prices, you would be surprised. That rifle would have gotten my attention , I have brought my share, it's a clean rig, many have have been rode hard , there's clearly 2 different kind of gun owners

Alot were built 1-14" for the 168's, then it went to 1-13" for the 155's which I guess this one is, any barrel markings or smith effects price

I could see that rifle selling for between $1700-$1900.00
I paid about half that for a M70 match rifle Short action in an Anschutz stock. The is a bit of nostalgic resurgence of guys taking up the old stripper clip bolt guns and running XTC. After Legging out and making HM with a service rifle then going to match rifles with different calibers, It gets boring drilling X's with your T2K or an Eliseo tube gun. :)
