if you want to save components, time to the range and wear on your barrel, send them to me and I'll hydro-form them for you.

DJ , would it be ok to call you on Tuesday to discuss neck turning lapua .308 brass prior to sizing for 7-08ai?
Trying to help my brother get his new shooter up and running.

I buy Lapua 308 and neck it down normally cheaper than 7-08! ( leave the false shoulder) they form pretty darn well. And then I find the prefect load. Seems that between 48 and 50 grains of H4350 is nails but I’m seeing RL 17 as a next best thing.
My wife has been shooting the 7/08ai for 15 years and she’s on her second barrel, I have another one on the way for the kiddos on a evo SS action. I will post results when it lands

With Peterson making quality 7mm-08 brass, i'm not sure i would go to the trouble of making it from 308. Even if it is Lapua.
Even forming from 308, if using a FL die, i see no need to create a false shoulder, or jamb the bullet into the lands.
If using a full length sizing die were an issue, i would have discovered it long before now.
The AI chamber should have a slight interference fit at the neck/shoulder junction.
Your go gage for 7mm-08 is now the no-go gage for 7mm-08AI.
If you feel your having issues with the firing pin pushing the case forward, then your headspace is set incorrectly!

I have necked down LC 7.65X51 brass to 7mm-08. Trimmed, annealed (it was fired once), loaded with meduim charge of H414 with 139gr SST to 0.020" off the lands. Had zero issues other than reduced case volume due to the LC brass.
