Hello to everyone

Hello. I am new to this forum. Just wanted to introduce myself. Does anyone have any experience with barrel twist rate on a .264 win mag with 140gr+ bullets. I had a 1:8' and it wouldn't shoot anything real good except 140VLDs. With hunting bullets, the best group I could muster out of it was about 3', which isn't acceptable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have always had factory barrels on all the .264 wm i have owned. they are all 1:9 twist. i have not shot anything over the 140's. A cousin of mine shot 160 sierras in his elk hunting, and they shot really well. they also do a bunch of damage to whatever they hit!! I used 160 sierras on a small bison from a 6.5/284,which had a 1;9 hart). i currently shoot the 120spt and 100hp sierra bullets in my 264 sendero. they shoot really well. i just don't see much point in using a heavier bullet for what i do with it. I have shot 2 groundhogs with it, and one elk cow, which turned a little too much at 298 yards and it cost her dearly. the 120 spt did an excellent job, and she made it about 30 yards, then rolled down a hill a bit. i guess what matters most is what you are doing with yours, hunting large game or varmints)?? the best accuracy that the three of us have had in about 8 different 264 win mags was the 100hp, with 70.0 grains of h4831sc, it has just shot well in all of them. see pics attached, they are all 3 shot groups, some may be 5. all the groups on the right are 100hp.

Thanks Fryeguy. I will be using mine as big game medicine for whitetails, mulies, elk, and coastal black bear. I had a 1:8' twist barrel on it and the only thing it would shoot was 140 VLD. I was trying to shoot 140 partitions or 156 Norma Oryxs. The partitions would get around 1.5', but I had to slow them down, WAY down, to about 2600fps. To me, that kind of defeated the whole purpose of having the extra power. My friend has a 98 mauser in .264 with a lilja 1:9' twist @ 27' and it loves big bullets with lots of powder. I am going to rebarrel it soon. Thanks for the info
