Hello- new here and to reloading. A couple questions:

No FP, scotch tape over headstamp only.

lol that was a derp moment. I see what you're trying to do here. With no FP and a bit of tape over the head stamp there is zero movement. So that's my headspace- a piece of scotch tape thickness, which is right on, correct? ;)

Sigsavage....you should list an approximate location and I'm sure someone on here would be more than happy to help you better in person. Eliminates a lot of confusion and if your a visual type, would be a valuable asset...just my 2

I wish I could take someone up on that, if there is anybody here in Winnipeg, Canada....

If you can close the bolt (in full battery-handle down),then add another layer of tape. We want to make sure you did not push the shoulder too far.

1 piece of tape it closes normal. 2 pieces and it takes some pressure for the last half to 3rd or so. And I feel rubbing.

OK, Those cases you just sized were bumped a tad too much but very close to where you want to be. You now have a pretty good idea on how to adjust the die. When you get the H/S gauge record the numbers and double check bump each time you load a batch...and measure a couple-not just one, because they will begin to vary with multiple firings.

Sweet. Thanks so much. The case I was measuring was one sized with the die turned all the way down to the shell holder. So I'm guessing if I backed off 1/4 to 1/2 turn I'd be bang on? Do I want to get the feel with one piece of tape that I did with 2? How exactly do I judge it?

I just did a case with one piece of tape that was sized with the die backed out a smidge according to the set up instructions. I got a bit of rubbing over the last half of bolt closure, so I'm guessing that's bang on?

Typically the scotch tape measures 0.002-0.003". So if you just took a fired case -with one layer of tape, previously NOT sized, and ran it through your press with the die"backed out a smudge" from previous setting and got slight resistance in the last half of bolt closure ......then you are good to go. Lock the die with the locknut and double check.

Right on. Will confirm this next time I shoot. This is a good example of the normal rules not applying ;)

I'm glad I didn't bump until the bolt fell freely, because that would have created waaaaaay too much space and I'd never know.

Apparently with your set-up, you couldn't bump much more. When you get new brass, measure it and it will most likely be ~0.006 - 0.008" short of where your ideal bump is.

Also, your bolt won't fall free as you saw in the vid....the ejector has a lot of tension on the case....in the vid that action either has none or is removed or has a light spring.
