Hell of a Barrel!

Impacts were influenced by wind and velocity. However the impacts moved very little which I like a lot! Especially if you consider the velocity range was 2889 up to 3003 FPS. Some barrels would have climbed off the target with that much difference in velocity.

Thanks Bart. I'm sure you know the reason for my question. I have found that often when picking the best of two or three nodes, small groups are important, but a lack of shift in point of impact is sometimes an even more important indicator of the very best and usually the widest node.

Dave.

I would take 1c,1D,
2B,C,D to 600 and then pick my loads. Based on how they group.

also based on impacts. 1 B,C, D holds steady. More so than 2 B,C,D

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! You’re smarter then the average bear! When I evaluate a barrel I look for three things!

1. How wide is the Load window.
2. How Does the barrel behave in the wind.
3. How much POI Change with different loads.

Ok. I give up. I have looked at this over and over and can not see a significant difference between 1b-d and 2b-d.
Is it that 2b-d goes from slight vertical to horizontal to slight vertical?

No I Prefer H4895.

Evil lurks when you push a load to its upper limits. The higher and harder you push the narrower the load window gets. Then when the load blows up it does it so in spectacularly fashion!

Bart
Very true but this was an instance of a barrel that didn't perform until it got very close to that upper limit. Maybe I will try H4895 again just to see how this new barrel handles it.

Bart, I've seen other posts where you have a Labradar right next to you,
did you collect FPS on this?
I know you let the target tell you where to load, just curious on FPS.

@Ranger188, @JamesnTN, @Ccrider , @shoot4fun Here is the Target with group sizes (measured with Ballistic-X), velocity, load and ES.

Guys
Around 30.12 or 2935 FPS is no mans land. The gun doesn’t like to shoot there. 30.32 produced 2954 and shot a nice group. However, if I go to a match and it’s colder than expected or heavy air, my load of 30.32 my load will be slower. So by bumping up my load a little for safety, I stay out of no mans land and I’m on the low side of my load window, which allows me to stay in tune as the load speeds up over the course of the day.

I printed that out and put it in my “pearls of wisdom” folder. That was the most concise lesson on tuning I’ve ever seen.
Thanks for sharing!

Being hard headed, I would still pick 30.5.
Why?
I see consistent groups and POI on 2B, C and D. I also see a very acceptable ES between them (even with C having no ES listed). Granted three shots is not a fair representation of ES/SD but 30.5 I would feel good about hot, cold or in between.
I do have a tendency to pick the highest possible node though.
Any way, I vote you keep that barrel safe by never taking to a match. :D
