why the repeat of 1a so many times? to me (and im ignorant) all the b-c-d look better. why did 1a interest you so much (im trying to learn hereo_O). thanks for the help:D

Curious Bart, do you believe the impact points are all accurate for each load or were they influenced by the wind? In other words, were all targets shot in the same wind condition? I know you would have had plenty of flags out.

Thanks,
Dave.

I wanted to confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was the gun going out of tune and not that I missed something. That load for 1A and 1E buried the first two shots. It wasn’t calm when I shot this, just making sure.

Thanks,

Impacts were influenced by wind and velocity. However the impacts moved very little which I like a lot! Especially if you consider the velocity range was 2889 up to 3003 FPS. Some barrels would have climbed off the target with that much difference in velocity.

Great shooting. Thanks for sharing.
Was this your first testing with this barrel. Please follow up with your additional development.

How will you choose which load to test further. Looks like b,c and d of both 1 and 2 are in tune.

Strange how 1B, 1C and 1D shot close (C and D really close)
but as the charge went down in powder they climbed up slightly

4 out of 8 groups shot really small over a 1.4g powder change.
Bart didn't do too bad a job either. :D
I never adjusted the scope. The groups in general will tend to print a bit higher (and left), as the condition pushes them further left. As the condition let’s up or switches (more L to R) they will tend to move more down and to the right.

Joe,

I’m looking more at between 2B and 2C!
With a barrel that keeps impacts centered as well as that with as wide a velocity spread as you have there I would find it hard to narrow down a node. I would (and I know you need no help choosing) pick the middle between 2B and 2D in order to have just a bit wider node. I think the wider the better, especially with H4895.
Now, please school me on how it should be done.

Here is something to remember. Your gun shoots it’s best right up until it shoots it’s worst! For example 1B is only 1 to 2 tenths of powder from blowing up. The same with 2B. However 2B is just past blowing up and has 4 to 5 tenths of room before going out of tune. So my choice would be 30.42 and go shoot.

Row 1 is pretty much what I consider the low node. Row 2 is my high node. I could run over 3000 For a “Higher Node” but that’s where evil lurks.
