Agreed, my point was that it is not zircon sand. I think that the IBS sort range rule is unnecessarily and undesirably narrow, and is probably not being followed for that reason. I also believe that those whose bag fill is a mineral other than zircon sand have no competitive advantage.

Agreed, chromite and zircon sand have almost identical bulk densities in typical particle size.

Hey the rules were written long before I was a member. I just read them and then followed them to stay above board at matches.
Then I copied here just to show it.

Harbor Freight sold 25lb boxes of Garnet blasting media but it was not available as of 2 years or so ago. The Aluminum Oxide, as Doug mentions, is what I bought. Garnet is about 15% denser but the AlOx has worked fine for me. Both are much cheaper than the usual non-bulk quantities of Chromite sand available.

Even though we do not have a blast media business where I live, calling around that a company in Sacramento has a rep. in our area that keeps some inventory at his place. 50# cost me about $25.
