Heavy sand

My wife surprised me with an Edgewood gator tall rear bag on Christmas! I'm now ready to fill it. My question is do I go with Sinclair heavy bag sand or spend the $ for zircon? Any input would be much appreciated.
Thank You

Use paver sand or play sand from lowes. Lots of folks getting away from heavy sand.

+1. Unless you have some rational concerns that your bag will move around, heavy sand gets you no more stability than does paver or play sand from Lowes. Works fine for me.

Good advice for me as I was just starting to do some inquiries into the heavy sand thing myself. Thanks.

Looks like kinetic sand might be a little frustrating getting into the bag.

I'm trying a new bag filled with black blasting media. It seems to be working good, a little lighter than heavy sand. I got a damaged bag for half price, locally at Northern Tool.

Thanks for the advice. I'm glad I asked here 1st. I almost with zircon from Bruno's untill I saw the shipping cost for 2 boxes!

And therein lies much of the reason why some folks don't buy heavy sand...shipping cost. For retired shooters who don't have an endless checkbook balance, its tough to justify paying shipping charges from most suppliers. And finding heavy sand locally is darn near impossible.

Neither. Read this first by recent BR Hall of Fame inductee and bullet maker extraordinaire Bart Sauter who prefers Regular Sand and here's why: http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?89328-Common-Benchrest-Faults-and-Fixes :)

Unless I misread the post, I believe Bart was specifically referring to front bag fill. I do agree that super-slick bag set-ups are not ideal. Consistent bag/ stock friction is best.
I also agree that the front bag should be "exercised" regularly (before every match or shoot session). Avoid using those blocks used to hold front bag shape when not in use.
I would not use heavy sand in the ears, front or rear bag.

Read a little further under consistency. If you know Bart and Billy you couldn't imagine them using one type of sand in a front bag and something different in the rear without a caveat statement. :)
