heavy barrel on a 700

I had a 1.350 x 28 straight on a 700 SA.It was bedded 6 in.past the action face then floated.Since then all my 1.350 or larger barrels use a barrel block. The rifle shot ok but I think the barrel blocks made a better rig with less stress on the action

A lot of HV barrels are fitted to Rem 700s for 1000 Yd. Benchrest. They are often 30" long, 1.25 for 6" and .950 at the muzzle. Weight is about 8#.

This may not help much as my 700 is sleeved. But have no problems with the the two HV barrels I switch between. one is 28" the other is 27" long. No bedding under the barrel at all completely floated.

Check the boys on the Palma site alot of them bed just the action and use the Lite to Heavy Palma contours to 30in +.Most barrel makers will steer you straight on barrel size also. BTW is this a comp rig or varmint ? Check with Hart,Kreiger,Pac-Nor etc. you can view the profiles on their web sites or create your own
