Heavily compressed loads

As a side note...

Years ago I tried to find the max load in one of my 243win rifles with 105amax and H-4831sc.

3 range trips later I tested up to 45.8 gr with out any signs of pressure. In Winchester brass, 2,800" coal (kissing lands), and BR-2 primer.

I will also be using BR-2 primers, I feel that the harder cups will help to provide me with a better idea of pressure than the GM210M's. I've noticed the same as others, the Federal's seem to flatten very easily even with mild loads.

In all honesty, why bother? Choose another powder which meets the full or nearly full loading requirements and enjoy the entire process instead of worrying and fussing.

I suggest using Re-16 which will yield the same or slightly higher velocities yet will be at 100% case fill (under the bullet) or slightly less. You'll like this powder and there are no worries about temperature stability either.

Also, a drop tube would help settle that powder, as would a little light tapping on the case.

These are two of the most common suggestions regarding how to settle the powder below the maximum capacity. The drop tube is a no brainer and takes just a couple of tenths of a second longer than the standard drop tube. No big deal. The vibration of a load can be accomplished while you're running your vibratory tumbler, cleaning other cases. Fill the case then hold it in contact with the vibratory tumble for a few seconds.

This can all be avoided by judicious selection of a different powder. We are in a terrific position now to have an ever increasing selection of a variety of powder suited to most circumstances. Don't get stuck, try a different powder.:D

I am always wary of data that is not specific to the bullet I am using. 3 years ago I was loading 80 Gr Bergers over Varget in 223, and pierced a primer 0.1gr over minimum load. Bought a Berger book, max load was .5 grains under the minimum load from Hodgdon. I like my eyes and fingers more than the cost of a new load book.

Just finished up my ladder test at 350 yards. No issues with pressure bar the top charge- 48.1gr is the maximum in my rifle. I will shoot another ladder with 0.3gr increments between 46.5 and 47.5gr to further refine the load. After that, seating depth adjustments.
