mtnman mentions shooting cast. Traditionally lubed cast rifle loads,at "normal" speeds do increase barrel life by most experiences.... say anything less than 2500fps. Things change when the speeds get really cranked up since,lube quantity goes down. Less is more(less lube,more velocity)... meaning less lube is needed because too much,blows past the bullet on high pressure loadings. Lube "quality" requirements go up as well. But cracking 3k fps is normal varmint varmint loads in several chambering here.
My vote on barrel wear is when a certain combination of pressure/bearing length*/powder burn rate is met,wear goes up.
*Bearing length on cast is further complicated due to "grooves".... think mono solids. And through the use of "bore rider" noses.
