Heat wave groundhogs.

Went out day off and was set up in a 100 acre piece new beans, the shots were all 200 yards to the shot of the day at 280 yards chest on a gh,I saw 5 and nailed 3 , shot at 3, after 11 am it was 94 degrees and nothing was moving , but a big thunderstorm moved in and I vacated. The 17 hornet never ceases to amaze as the gh's were all drt.

We are seeing the same in N. IN. Clear day yesterday, we waited until about 6 and hunted 3 solid hours.

205 wood chucks/ground hogs so far this year, still probably got about a month before the beans get too high to hunt. Great times.

Here's some photos from last night. We set up for about 2 hours in the beans, worked four holes in the beans & the weeds on the edges, 25 confirmed dead.

Howdy !

Great work there !

Recent heat wave put our immediate NE Indiana area under the worst " wet bulb " temps seen in the U.S. at the time.

The severe heat conditions greatly minimized activities of the local " Soybeanus Digestus " population. This was preceded by an extended period where bean fields were being sprayed with herbicides. And now, most-recent rains will bring an explosion in crop growth.

We are going out into past-peak conditions, sfer sher.

Got this mangy one, but missed opportunity to " double " with her pup.
Took a sub-optimal shot on a left butt aim point, while the sow was quartering away towards the den.

This one stopped eating the beans.

Late May pic shows location of the field, just outside the East city limits of New Haven.
Closest point on woods to the Lt center is 500 yd, but optics seem to distorted that.
Strip of trees seen Rt center behind power tower is 1,000-1,200 yd retreating away from viewing point.
