Headspace on a 22-250

I just converted my 700 EtronX over to "standard" centerfire. When I installed the bolt I checked the headspace with FL sized brass. Then I used masking tape on the end of the brass as a No Go Gauge. So I'm getting .005" difference. Will the .005" make a significant difference? Is it too dangerous for a hunting rifle shooting factory ammo?

I converted an 22/250 Etronx to a standard bolt gun several years back and I used the Go & No_Go guages to be safe. But I think you're close.

You are fine, and well within standards.

That's what I figured. The Forster Go Gauge is 1.754" and the No Go Gauge is 1.759". That's a .005" variance so I thought I might be safe. Just wanted to make sure

Masking tape is pretty thick and compressible. You don't have any shim stock laying around? Go buy a cheap set of feeler gauges and cut the .0015" up and put them on the back of the brass one at a time.

Plain old Scotch tape is 2 thou and works great... plus it stays in place!

The masking tape I'm using is .004" so I figured that would be close enough to the .005" No Go Gauge. I'm gonna give the Scotch tape a try also and see what I come up with. Thanks guys
