Gary: Just measured my PTG go-gauge headspace with the Hornady gauge and it is 1.154". All 5 of my 6BR chamberings, some cut with the same reamer, some not, measure a uniform 1.156" on the fired case as it comes out of the chamber, after punching out the primer. These are all with Lapua brass.
Gary: Actually, I'm surprised at a difference of .013". Those fired cases would not fit in my chamber without some serious shoulder set-back, and my brass fired in that chamber would be really stretched to fill up the chamber on firing. Don't understand why there is so much difference between the PTG and Clymer go gauges. ??? p.s. I'd have to write it off as a dimensional difference between the gauges that were used to take the readings. Mine is the Hornady (actually the older Stoney Point) and the Clymer dimension was taken with ?
Heavies: Interesting. Just checked my PTG 6BR reamer again, and no reference to headspace length shown. Then went to the reamer drawing for my 6BR chambering reamer and it shows 1.167" min./ 1.177" max., so your dimension is very close to that. Checked a Forster 223 Rem go-gauge, and it shows 1.4636" and my Hornady reads .010" less. .012" difference (shorter) on a PTG 308 go with my Hornady. So, I guess the true dimension is dependent on what the reamer actually cuts, and what gauge (Hornady, Sinclair, etc.) is used to take the reading. Confusing to me, I feel like I'm going around in circles, so will jump off the subject.
