Head's-Up... Leica Rangemaster CRF 2000-B $399!

I was going to sell my Leica 1600, but now that the Leica 2K only costs $400 and the new Nikon Black 4K out muscles them all for $450, My Leica 1600 really isn't worth much... Probably be lucky to get $300 for it. I suppose I'll just hang onto it as a backup. Always been ultra reliable provided the weather is clear. Easily ranges trees over 1900 yards in good conditions.

If the Leica LRF's would range through precipitation and fog, I would have probably bought the new 2700B back when it first came out. Unfortunately all Leica LRF's are rendered completely useless in bad weather and I saw no reason to spend more money on another rangefinder that still leaves me at a disadvantage in the field when weather rolls in. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Leica, but the simple fact is that it has limitations that I feel people shopping for a new LRF should know about.

Anyhow, I'm happy I held out and now have the new Nikon 4,000 yard LRF on the way. I know from having owned a Nikon LRF in the past that their Target Priority laser technology performs very well in rain, snow, or mild fog.

I've been eyeing the Sig, now I'm torn.

I bought the Sig Kilo 2200MR last year. There are a lot of lemons out there and you will get horrible customer service from Sig Sauer. Brand new out of the box, it wouldn't even come close to meeting the ranging specs stated in the owner's manual. Tested it in every type of lighting and atmospheric conditions possible before finally contacting customer service. Customer service completely blew me off and basically told me to go bury my head in the sand when I told them it wouldn't even range 1400 yards on very large completely vertical reflective targets. 1368 yards was the furthest range I ever got on any target. Don't waste your time or hard earned money. Many other people out there who had the same experience as me with various Sig model LRFs. And I completely understand that no company is perfect and everyone lets faulty products slip through QC every now and again. I can deal with that. Its when the company won't stand behind their product that I start getting really bent out of shape. For that reason, I will never own another Sig Sauer product again.

So I ended up selling it off at a greatly discounted price with the shortcomings of it's performance known to the buyer.

I'll also add that my Leica 1600 walked circles around the Sig 2200MR. Easily outperformed the Sig in every test I conducted. Ranged farther and and picked up targets better at every turn.

That mirrors a lot of what I've been reading which is why I ordered the Leica last night. Thanks for your input and thanks to Brad for posting the deal.

Hi Ledd slinger is your Leica a rangemaster 1600R

Yes, it is the original R model. Has a small ballistics program but does not have the customizable program of the B. It does not have adjusted angle ranging compensation either. Tells me the incline angle, but does not adjust the range reading.

They have two 2000-B LRFs listed for Sale : #40536 for $399 , and # 40538 which they list as the "2017 Edition" . Does anyone know if there is a difference and if so , what it is ?

The difference is color.

The #40536 is Black:

The #40538 is Green:

Green is obviously worth $300 extra :)

Aside, today it was raining hard, so I wanted to see how the Leica did. I went out on the front porch and ranged some trees I had ranged the previous day in sunlight... got exactly the same reading... it instantly came up at 1340 yards.

That's great to hear, but it goes against my many years of experience with the 1600 and 1200's and eveyone else I know that has owned Leica LRFs for years. Does it range in the rain reliably? There's a very small chance you happened to get lucky with the laser shooting and returning through the rain drops. If your Leica LRF ranges reliably in the rain, you are the only person who has ever owned one that will do that.

Well, I ranged it multiple times... same reading. And yes, as I've said, I've had a Leica 1200 CRF for the last FOURTEEN YEARS... never a problem in the rain. Fog, yes. Rain, no.
