Just a forum heads up . CDNN has short action stripped bolts for Remington 700s $69 .
They have been available for 2-3 months . I just received mine and would of passed the info on earlier but i wanted to see what you actually received .
New bolts , bead blasted blue , 223 bolt face
Worth it as a spare .
Gary

FORUM BOSS: Notice to members. Most of the bolts currently available on CDNN are NOT for Rem 700 short actions. REPEAT, most of the CDNN stripped Rem Bolts are for actions OTHER than Rem 700. Read the Product descriptions VERY carefully before you buy!!

So I'm thinking that since a 40x works in either receiver, maybe I'll get that one, and it will be a little more versatile.

Would there be any down-side to that?? jd

I bought a new complete rifle 700 adl in 223 the other day for 290 plus tax. Rem must have had an overrun on some 700–. 223 stuff

On my 40X, there is a rail on I think the right side of the receiver that the bolt lug must be grooved to slide on. 700 bolt isn't grooved. jd
That is not correct Mr. Holllar. Several of my 700s have the groove for the anti-bind guide rail, my early Varmint Master does not. There was an engineering change, but I don't know for sure what year that occurred in. The 40X is nothing more than a 700 with different markings.

I stand corrected.

My statement is correct for the 40x and the 700 that I own. Vintage on those is 70's, -- maybe early 80's on the 40x.

So could we assume that these come with the grooved bolt lug? jd

I have half a dozen, or so, NIB 700 actions in my shop. All have the 'groove'. As I said, I am not sure of the exact date of the engineering change. My Varmint Master was bought new in '74. It has no groove. Maybe Google it.
