HBN coating

You guys turned me onto wet molying, and I like it. :)
A friend and I are thinking of HBN coating some bullets, he tried some dry, and it was kind of a mess, had to scrape the stuff off. My question is, any of you guys tried to do this wet? To me it makes sense, but may be way out there also.

why did you have to scrape it off , would be my first question ??
i use a rotary tumbler , steel bbs and no issues.

I wasn't there, it was done in jars in a vibrating tumbler, no bb's. So I never did handle the finished product, the guy just said it was crusted on, like a salt roast???
But he had heated his bullets first, something we did in the dry moly process.

I had similar results the first try. I added steel shot and viola! I had properly coated bullets.

To answer the question, no I've never tried a wet application.

Steel shot works fine. I use #2's because I reload with them but smaller steel shot will work as well. Put the hBN in a plastic jar with the shot and bullets. Place it in a vibrating tumbler or a rotating one. They will be done when they frost up. Wipe them down with a dry cloth and voila.

What the hell is wet moly coating? Give us some info or threads.

Here's the thread I learned from, maybe I misstated saying "wet moly". Just using water in the mix.

Wet moly coating is the shits I learned of it here and man what a breeze to coat. Get a nice strainer and funnel so you can recover the liquid moly in a bowl and pour back into ya jar.

Would BBs work ok? So far I just put the bullets in the jar in the HBN and let the jar roll around in the tumbler. I wonder about consistency.

some have had issues with the copper plating on the bb's...so bare steel or ss
imho

As an experiment I tried running some bullets with some daisy silver (zinc coated) BB's and no hBN through a vibrating tumbler for an hour or so. I ended up with zinc coated bullets. I decided at that point steel shot was the way to go. The aim is to have the shot impact plate the copper jacketed bullets.

The directions for the Tubb coating system doesn't mention using any bb's only bullets and hbn in the jar. Do the BB's really make that much difference?

i've made somes test recently with the 215 in a 308 win. I've made myself a pressure table with naked bullet with 5 different powders. Found max load and run each load in Magneto speed chrony. I've then HBN coated my bullets and came back with the same load untill max pressure. Absolutely no changes in speed and max load between naked and coated bullets ??!!

I've coated bullet by starting to clean then (dish soap), tumbler with steel BB for a couple hours (2-3) until they are white and shoot !! I really dont understand what i'm doing wrong but there must be something...

did you prep the bore....with hbn ...as in a clean bore coated with hbn PRIOR to shooting the hbn rounds?

i will not lie..i do not know if hbn works..i shoot it in one rifle which has been shot with hbn since day one..

i have no know negatives..so i have not stopped.
