Hawkeye Slim 17" Shooting Edition Kit work okay for a 30" barrel

I have a new Savage 12 F-Class 6 Norma BR and I was looking into investing in a Hawkeye Slim 17" Shooting Edition Kit, but didn't know if the 17" would be fine or would I have to spend the extra $300 for the 22"?

The 17" will work fine, you need to look into both ends with it..
Been using one for years with no problem... other than I wish I had a 90 degree eye piece for it on some of my rifles...

Thanks... Just wanted to make sure. I thought I would not be able to see the hole barrel because of the receiver side.

Preacher,

I ended up getting the 17" borescope and it works just fine. What a good investment this was. I ended up looking at my other barrels just to see how much copper was not removed. Now I can make sure if I'm cleaning the barrel or not.

Scotty, I use the 17" also and love it, perfect on a 30" barrel. Most of the time I'm just looking at the throat and a few inches more and then the crown and a few inches, but when I want to see the full length, it works just fine.

I recently sold my old one and got a new model withh the focusing eyepiece, I'm not sure that was any real improvement. I wanted the 90 degree eyepiece, but it was just too much money.

I got the angled eye piece and I only use it when the unit is positioned over the stock. The only think I have noticed is that on my AR-15 using the open view, I can see the barrel real good. On my Savage 12F it is pretty dark and hard to see. I think it is due to the light refection from the barrel length. I covered the muzzel end and it was a little bit better. I'm going to try to find an led light that I can use instead of the one that comes with it. Also, the staring eyepiece seems to focus quicker than the angled.

I love my hawkeye bore scope. As German has said I view my throat mostly, and a few inches past the crown. I feel I get enough info from those viewings to know, or make a good guess as to what is going on in my barrel. Longest finshed barrel I have now is a 28" With in the next few months that will change to 32" I still think that the 17" Hawkeye will be plenty for what I need to look at. I didn't go with the 90 degree eye piece. Was told by a friend it wasn't worth the money. I agree with my friend. I have no problems viewing my throat without it. If the butt of the stock keeps you from viewing your chamber or throat, it is a lot cheaper to just take the barreled action out of the stock than to spend $250 for a 90 degree eye piece.

Mark: If the heighth of the buttstock causes problems with the straight eyepiece, it will be even more of a problem with the angled eyepiece since the bell housing diameter is much larger than the one on the straight eyepiece. The main reason I sold my 90 degree angled.

Yep. and then you have $250 tied up in something thats not needed and you can buy more bullets, primers, or powder witch would be money better spent in my book!! You can't beat good trigger time ;D
