Hawkeye Borescope

Hope this is a good place to post this. I am looking for advice on which model or kit to purchase, and where the best place would be to purchase it. I will be using it in barrels ranging from 20 to 30 cal.

Thank you,

Tony.

Bruno's had a really good deal on the 17" 90 degree eyepiece kit a couple of months ago. It came with the case, which I think is a good thing. I would check them.

Bullet Central had a deal almost as good. I would check Midway and Brownells / Sinclair. They sometimes run specials and have coupons.

Check the clearance on your stocks if you are considering the 90 degree eyepiece. The connector is huge and there is not enough clearance on most of my benchrest stocks to use it. I would not buy the kit with this eyepiece if I had to do it over again.

o_OI have had the 12" Hawkeye, with 90 Deg. view-tube for a LONG time - never had an issue viewing barrels on my competition BR rigs, or 20 Cal. barrels, which are somewhat more restrictive - many stock styles/manufacturers. Some hunting style [higher] combs are a little difficult - what am I missing? For me, the Hawkeye 12", with 90 Deg. mirror-tube works very well. RG

OOOps - have 12" - so, edited to correct.

Adjustable focus w/ 90degree eyepiece & 90-120degree mirrors in a Slim Line has served me well for 30+ years.

The less expensive fixed focus unit will work until your eyesight changes, then you will be S.O.L. to rely on the 90degree eyepiece for focus issues.

I purchased the Hawkeye 17" with the 90 degree eyepiece a little over a year ago. I purchased mine from Bruno's, who had a good sale at the time. To be honest, it does everything it was advertised to do, but having used it regularly during the last year, I now question whether it was the right unit for my needs. I have viewed images from a number of individuals' Lyman Borecams and am fairly certain it would have done what I need (i.e. simple inspection of the bore) for less than one quarter of the price of the Hawkeye. Just something to consider.

My Lyman Borecam lasted about a year & a dozen or so uses.
You bought the right thing!
