Hawke scopes??

does anyone have a good rundown on the Hawke line of scopes. Seem they are pretty low cost but I wonder if they are going to stand up to magnum rifle pounding . Please let me know what your experience is with these branded scopes. thanks

I had a Hawke 4.5-14x42 Tactical Sidewinder. It was a really nice scope;however, sold it because I changed my setup. It held zero and was repeatable on my 30-06 shooting 208 amax's. The farthest shot with scope was 1028 yards. Glass was clear and had good eye relief. I ran this scope for two years.

The only con about it was weight and the turrets were just slightly mushy and no zero stop.

Pretty cheap Chinese optics. Glass is decent, adjustments are really mushy. Nothing special about them at all. Vortex is much more bang for the same money.

I have 4 of the varmint scopes and they are very clear. Adjustments are ok and for the money they are good in my books. They are more clear than my Mark 4 if that helps you.

Clearer than a Leupold optic isn't saying much ;)

At 1/10 th price it is.

True. But they are NOT actually clearer than a Leupold Mark 4. I've had a 4.5-14x50 Mark 4 and I had the 6-24x56 Sidewinder30, and although I am not a Leupold fan either, the Mark 4 is a much better scope. The glass was actually pretty clear on the Hawke, but not that great. The Hawke glass was about the only thing that half-way impressed me about the Sidewinder. And being that the Sidewinder30 is their most expensive model, I can't imagine their cheaper models are even worth trying. I think of Hawke as a more expensive line of BSA scopes...If you're gonna buy a cheap scope, might as well spend less and get a BSA because they can hold zero, track and have decent glass as well, but are a third of the price.

Great scopes for the money, for paper they fall short on clarity IMHO, but for a pure hunting gun I have had NO problems with the sidewinder 30MM series and I have had probably 6-8 of them over the years.

i put a hawk sidewinder on my RPA 22ppc yesterday just for a laugh to try it to be honest and in all fairness it was bang on,i dialed out to 500 yards, back down to 300 then back to my zero at 100 and it was bang on,the glass was good nothing like the swarovski i had just took off but good..for the money they do work but to me perfect for an air rifle even though it did nothing wrong on my centerfire, cheers simon....

You know what, not everyone has alot of money and if the hawke keeps them shooting then it is ok in my book.I have alot of brands of scopes like leupold, sightron, tasco world class plus, baush &lomb, bushnell, kahles, weaver etc.I always try the most scope I can afford to keep on keeping on.We all no that anything below a leupold is junk in real world terms right?

I am with you Johnbearman we can,t all have the finances to buy higher end components to enjoy the sport of firearms.

I think there is better scopes for not a lot of money..Nikon has fair to good glass and Burris..Sightron would be a good priced optic to recommend, but with no experience with Hawk I would gravitate to something a little more recommended,,,

I have 3 hawke scopes and a nightgforce. A 16 power 32 power and 9 power on my rim fire . I love them if you have 500$ or less to spend they are awesome ! The turret clicks are very crisp and all 3 track perfect and I have never had a problem, I shoot 4000 rounds a year so I know about hawk scopes also keep in kind they are compared to my knight force on a daily basis. The ballistic calculator and range finder are incredible! I can't figure out why the "high dollar scopes" don't have the range finding reticles like the hawk ???? That's what pisses me off about my knight force no range finder no reticle that you can light up if it's almost too dark, but all the while I had to pay $1300 more because the glass is only a little clearer??? And I will tell you guys at 100yds there is not a 1300$ difference in my groups, and I am a very meticulous hand loader. In my opinion get the hawk and take the extra money you were gonna spend on a night force and get a match barrel, take your time on your hand loads and you will be a very happy shooter!!
