Haverkamp LV40 Action in Rem 700 Stock

Has anyone fitted and bedded a Haverkamp LV40 action into a Rem 700 pattern stock? Information available states that "some modification is required" Any details or info appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

The tennon is about .200" longer so you need to extend the recoil lug mortise forward if you use a recoil lug or just use the XP cut if its a light recoiling cartridge.

Also it’s a semi target tang so the rear edge of the tang will sit a bit high and not blend into the stock. But they’re a lot of action for the money.

Edit, I just looked at the Haverkamp site and edited my original post with the proper dimensions.

I have one and it shoots very well. If you have more questions just ask.

swd,
i been thinking about getting one. What do you like about it and any dislikes. I was planning a 30BR, and initially using a 40X stock I have.

Thanks,
Tim

They are a full 1.350” in diameter so a tight Rem 700 inlet may need to opened up slightly. They are quite tight but smooth, but they do have a bit of cock on close like like most Rem 700’s. The cock on close is probably the only thing I don’t like about them. I wish he drilled the face of the action for pins in case you wanted to use a front lug. But for $905 I think they are a good value. Although the re sale on them seems very weak. I’ll be shooting mine at our LR F Championships in a couple weeks.

swd,
Thank you for your honest review. I spoke with Tom a while back, and answered a number of questions I had as well as he invited me to stop by and check them out since I am only a few hours away.

thanks
Tim

Thanks for the replies. I will have the action soon and have been looking for a stock. I am looking at the Remington benchrest stocks that Protecktor (bags) are now offering. I will be bedding it an was looking for some insight in the stock modifications necessary.

Eric,
keep us updated on your build.

How is the bolt lift? Do you have Chromoly or Stainless?

I the trigger hanger reversible for trigger timing to help with that cock on closing?
Stainless action w CM bolt. Lift is nice and smooth. The hanger is symmetrical. I moved the sear forward to .250” pin fall and it still has quite a bit of cock on close.

Its a very good choice. Cheaper than a tricked out remington and better in a bunch of ways such as the trigger hanger and the 18tpi tenon along with port choices.

Glad to see hes catering more toward the custom remington crowd instead of the panda copy to the br crowd. This action will sell good im betting.

Eric,
any pics of your rifle, how do like the Haverkamp action and how does it shoot.

I bought a Haverkamp four years ago and had a LV Kreiger barrel chambered in 6.5 x 47 L . It shot consistently well, sub 1\4" groups when I did my part. This was with a sporter style stock and sandbags. Bought another Kreiger barrel and had it chambered in 6 -6.5x47. It shot even better, sub 1\5" groups. Decided I needed another action and wanted to buy another Haverkamp but there was issues with getting his license renewed. Didn't want to wait so I bought a Kelby Atlas. No regrets on the Kelby but would not hesitate to consider another Haverkamp.
