have you measured your barrel twist to ensure you got what you ordered and took delivery of ?

I purchased a KRIEGER 1:8 #4 for my sporter 6.5x47 DEFIANCE build.
I measured the barrel twist multiple times and it measures 1:8.5
I'm not happy - it's not what I ordered. Didnt realize this discretion till I got the build finished and started shooting.
This happen to anyone else?
Will it make an accuracy difference with the 140's ?
I havnt been able to find a consistent pet load ...

Unless you have a way to cast a lap in the bore, there is no accurate way to measure your twist. Using a tight patch always has some slippage.

I always measure the twist, then I ask my gunsmith to do it too, before any work is done.
A few years ago I was sent a 1 in 17'' .30 cal barrel instead of the 1 in 11''.
It was all rectified, no money was lost, just time.
You should be ok with the 140s.

It happened to me, I bought a 10 twist Lilja and got an 11 twist. Same as you, I had it installed before I knew it. Dan offered to replace it, but I'd have to take it off and send it in and cover the gunsmithing on the new barrel myself. I was not happy. I had bought it to shoot 190 grain matchkings and it wouldn't group them for anything. I tried some 210 matchkings just out of desperation and Bingo! It's a hammer! So I never sent it back.

Now I check every barrel BEFORE I send it to the gunsmith.

We shot all 8.5 twists with the 140 grain bullets. They shot great at 1000 yards. I know a bunch of people that shoot the 130 grain bullets at 1000 yards in the 6.5x47. Matt

I wouldn't be happy either, also I'd want to know why?

I ordered a 223 1:7. After checking at least a dozen times using a nylon brush technique, the average result was 7.5. It was already on the rifle so I got on with load work up. It shoots 80's well so I can't complain. I "read somewhere" that the industry standard is 1/2 a rotation either way, which I found hard to believe. Another barrel from the same mfgr is right on.

I'm sure this happens all the time.
Purchasing a particular barrel twist - viewing the inspection label upon its arrival and then discovering the wrong twist only after the rifle has been built and now the user has-to-live-with-it.
I am very fussy and expected to get what I ordered.
Maybe the barrel maker should have better quality control.
My wrong twist was with a KRIEGER.
I've bought one BROUGHTON and 3 PacNors in the past with no problem.

What did the stamping on the end of the BBL say?

If you've access to a bore scope, you can count the lands/grooves. The probe on my Lyman even has a scale printed in it. Easy-peasy.

My barrels are all 5 groove, no matter what the twist. Matt

OK. Start with a groove. Center the bore scope image in the groove. Note the reading on the scale, or mark the probe, whatever works. Insert the probe until that same groove is centered in the bore scope again. Mark the probe or read the scale again. Distance 2 minus distance one equals rate of twist.

Sorry if my first post was confusing. Made sense to me at the time, but not so much when I read it again.

Is this a hunting gun? If it is I’d shoot the 130 Berger hunting or 130 accubond. I shoot both these bullets in my two 6.5x47’s. Performance on deer has been excellent. Mine are both 8 twist. Or I should say they are suppose to be 8 twist. Haven’t checked them.

With the Berger 130 gr VLD’s, the 8.5 twist 26” 4 groove Krieger on my 6.5x47 is the cats meow. Shot 1/4 MOA at 600 and 800 yards both times I shot at these ranges. Velocity is 3,010 FPS.
