I just got a new gallon can of #9 and it looks darker and smells different, alcohol) than what I have been using for the last 800 years.

Is it me, or has anyone else that uses this "aged in oak" antique noticed a change.

.

Yes it changed about 4ys ago...,,.so did Marksmans Choice/Shooters Choice and Sweets 7.62 and GM Top Engine Cleaner .))....the new stuff doesnt smell rite either ..I cant use it for cologne any more hahaha...many of the cleaners that we use are dangerous/toxic/flammable/carconegic etc...and are constantly scrutinized by government regs. and Philidelphia lawyers which mandate constant up-grading of MSDS ...its a topsy turvy ole world...In these "Hoover Times" the only thnig that doesnt change is a Mothers Love and what the Good Book says.....Roger

Bummer... I should have bought a bunch more of it before it changed :,

Now, what am I going to give the lady for perfume :, :, :,

These days, it seems like I have more to fear from my own government than I did the Rooskies in the 60's and 70's...

... "Those were the good old days"!

While the government was busy with the Rooskies they were too busy to bother with us!!! Nowadays they have plenty of time for us!!!! We are becoming what the Rooskies were socialized!!!

You may have seen this, but the author of the website at the link below tested some cleaners for copper removal and carbon removal.

I can verify from my experience that the version of Hoppe's #9 I have, which was old), does not remove copper. Also, I think there are now two types of #9, regular and Elite. Have not tried the Elite.

I switched to Barnes CR-10, and also use generic aerosol throttle body cleaner for extra carbon removal. All I miss is that hypnotic smell of the Hoppe's #9!

Kind of nice to have my suspicians confirmed by others. Began using "Marksmans Choice" when it first came out in '85,?), and was impressed thru the name change to "Shooters' Choice", until a few years ago when it seemed to be taking a lot longer to get the barrels clean, using exact same procedures. Switched to "Butchs'" last November, and cleaning time has been greatly reduced, even for those "problem" barrels. Guess it's only a matter of time 'til "Butchs'" will also be "changed".:,

YOU GUYS ARE TUFF! All this talk about #9 smell I thought I was only one that rub on hands arms. Tried neck once she nibbled and curled up nose. I'm hyped now, Have broken leg but need to figure way down to gun room dump #9 on a rag and just start wiping things. Nothing like the smell of #9 except maybe gunpowder on a cool damp morning.
